PROJECT:
SS United States (1952)
SCALE:
1.8:1
VERSION:
1.19.2+
ABOUT:
Construction:
The construction of the ship began on February 8, 1950 at the Newport News Shipbuilding &
Drydock yard in Virginia. On June 23, 1951, the ship was launched,
not by the traditional method of sliding down a slipway but rather by
flooding the drydock where she was being constructed. This was a
first for a passenger ship and has become the way almost all
passenger ships are launched today.
Sea trials and Handing over:
Sea trials were held in May and June 1952. During those tests the United States was able
to do a top speed of over 38 knots (44 mph). She was also able to do
20 knots in reverse, which is better than some cruise ships can do
going forward. On June 22, 1952, the SS United States was handed over
to the United States Lines.
Maiden Voyage & Service:
The United States started her maiden voyage on July 3, 1952 from New York to Southampton. When the United States left the port of New York, it was not yet sure if the United States would try to break the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing. But as the ship neared the Ambrose Lighthouse, the traditional starting point of a transatlantic crossing, it seemed clear to everyone: We are going to make it! 3 days, 10 hours, 40 minutes averaging over 35 knots - the transatlantic speed record was broken. The ship arrived in Southampton on July 7, 1952. 10 hours faster than the RMS Queen Mary (the former record holder) would ever be able to. In her regular service between 1952 and 1969, the United States made 400 transatlantic crossings and a few cruises. In 1969 the Altantic was crossed more and more by airplanes, thus keeping the travel time to a minimum. So the typical transatlantic crossing was dropped and the United States was taken out of service.
After her Service:
Since then, the United States had many owners who wanted to do very different things with it. She crossed the Atlantic twice more to be freed from harmful asbestos in Turkey and Ukraine, which was used on the ship as an insulation material.
Today:
Since 1996 the ship has been lying in the port of Philadelphia, rusting away. In 2011, the ship was repurchased by the SS United States Conservancy, an association dedicated to saving the ship.

I have not good news for you. Since 5 months there is a
construction break of the SS United States. One of our builders has health problems.
Because of that we decided to make a brake.
We try our best to build on this ship as soon as we can.
For your information: The ship is finished until the Main Deck.
Best reguards,
Imperial Shipyard
KSGGamed Innoventions
But you are doing a great job. Hopefully your United States will be finished faster than mine xD
