The history of the round house.

According to the idea of the architects, on the eve of the 80th year, the Olympics-80, at least 5 such houses, symbolizing the Olympic sign from the five rings, were to appear in Moscow. In fact, the idea is very interesting. Five giant rings, but it should be noted that one such ring - 155 meters in diameter, embodying the Olympics, would certainly interest foreigners and this was very interesting ba "chip" of the USSR. Even the plan to build the whole of Moscow with such houses was considered. However, in the end, the plan was abandoned.

In 1972, the first house of unusual shape was designed by architect Yevgeny Stamo and engineer Alexander Markelov. The house is located in the Ochakovo-Matveyevskoe district in the west of Moscow, on Nezhinskaya Street and has a circle shape, in the common people - "Bublik". The dwelling house is designed for 913 apartments.

In this house everything was planned. A huge courtyard, in which were almost all the amenities: shops, a pharmacy, a laundry, a studio and much more. The architectural thug could easily be called a mini-city in the city.
1980 was approaching, the year of the Olympics, and in Moscow only a year ago they were finishing the construction of the second such house, again nine-storey panel houses, 26 entrances and already 936 apartments. The house was also set up in the west of Moscow, in the Ramenka district along Dovzhenko Street.

Thousands of people have moved to these houses in the hope of a happy future in a new, unique, in terms of architecture, round house. The outstanding actors of the theater and cinema - the Honored Artist of Russia Galina Belyaeva, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Saveliy Kramarov, as well as the film director, screenwriter and poet Emil Loteanu lived here.
In these houses films were shot: "Courier", "Tragedy in the style of rock", "Artist from Gribov" and many issues of "Wicks", as well as a round house can be seen in the final shots of the famous Soviet film "Moscow does not believe in tears." One of the residents said: "In the autumn of '78, late in the evening, they asked to turn on the lighting in the apartments, the windows of which go out into the yard. And these round panoramic shots of glowing windows you are all watching at the final credits of the film. "

It is worth noting the way how the architects managed to achieve the rounding of panel houses. The whole secret is that the construction of panel houses allowed an error of six degrees, which allowed to reach the ring.
But why did the "Bagels" not become popular, and the plans for the five rings were collapsed? Everything is very simple. One of the most important tasks of Soviet housing construction is practicality and cheapness. Round houses are expensive to maintain, bulky and completely inconvenient.

Are they the same size? I mean do they all have one entrance/retail, nine living floors and one top floor with supposed storage, and the same diametre too?

Offtopic: here is some interesting story about the openinig of DK-2 (Domostroitelen kombinat-2, I think so домостроителньй комбинат in russian). They bought equipment for building ''khruschovki'' but it was soon discovored that they aren't really going up to the standards of Bulgaria, so in Bulgaria it was (almost) completely re-made, with 8 floors instead of five, elevator added too. An interesting thing about the elevator is that it stops between the floors - inside the stairwell cage. (How nice when you carry something heavy...). New windows were added, doors to the balcony too... As for the interior of apartments, I don't know, but at the final what left of the khruschovki was the height of a floor (2,70m) plus the width of a single panel (3,20 m). The serie was named BS-2-64. Later on, in 1971 I believe, it was re-made again, with high under-roof spacing, with some panels widened up to 3,60m, which also went on with 3,20m and some rooms became wider. The next serie was named BS-2-69

Yes, they are all the same, but the arches of passageways to the yard were different, and the number is also different. What about the Bulgarian panel houses, they are very similar to our nine-storey houses "Brezhnevka", "pencil" and "il," each of them special, but so similar.

Hohohho, nice. It is called the russian colisseum too. Right now I have made an experimental EPK (Edroploshten Kofrazh, едроплощен кофраж, probably едроплощны кофраж in russian, large-area shuttering). Said EPK building is two-sectional with each section mirroring the other, with the only difference being that the right one is one floor shorter (The left one is 44 floors, the right - 43). Also I am building new BS-69-SF (page is in bulgarian) in my edition, which mixes removed balcony ceilings on the top floors, experiments with retail areas on the lower floors, removed ceilings of the top floor balconies, half-hexagonal elements and arches. As for your build, I'd congratulate you. I am giving you a diamond. Also, by the way, I will experiment with sections which join an angle of 45 degrees. So, my friend, you get my diamond here. :)
