The twelve destroyers of the Mutsuki Class were built through the 1920s. Each were named after a month in the lunar calendar. These ships were 103 meters long and displaced 1,315 tonnes. They had a speed of 37.25 knots and could sail a range of 6,700 kilometers at cruising speed. Armed with four 12-centimeter naval cannons mounted in single turrets and two triple torpedo launchers, they improved upon the firepower of their predecessors, the Minekaze and Kamikaze class destroyers. They were mounted with 2 AA Guns and 2 7.7-millimeter machine guns. They also had two depth-charge launchers in the aft that held 18 anti-submarine depth charges.

The Mutsuki class had a tragic operational history. All were sunk and none survived the war. Mutsuki was lost during an air raid off the Solomon islands. Kisaragi was lost in an air attack. Yayoi was lost in an air attack off New Guinea and Fumizuki was shelled during a coastal operation. Uzuki was lost to US PT-boats, Satsuki and Yuzuki to attacks and Minazuki to submarine torpedoes in the Philippines.

I decided to do the Mutsuki class as my first build on Planet Minecraft because of its aesthetics, its small size and relative simplicity compared to other ships such as the Ise, Bismarck or such.
