Update: step by step tutorial added
A friend (TheAlbionIX) and I started playing around with hoppers and chicken eggs. We came up with a really efficient and server friendly design for a fully automatic chicken farm with built-in cooker and storage.
It uses the comparator to see if a dispenser has items in it, and if so, starts a clock to push them out. It then uses cobwebs to make chickens fall down a chute, and by the time they make it to the bottom, they are mature and can be cooked using a lava bucket in a dispenser.
