My first Planet Minecraft project, Brandtford City, is an early 20th century city build project inspired by New York City in the 1910s-1920s. This project started as a survival project on a server with a friend (he built a medieval city on a nearby island). Two goals of this city build are to make it as vanilla Minecraft friendly and historically accurate as possible. Thus, I'm using Faithfuls texture pack and trying to make the city's scale reasonable, so when you're walking around everything is catered towards character size.
CITY PLANNING & ARCHITECTURE:
Thus far, the neighborhoods of Market Street, Downtown, Platte Street, and the Riverfront have seen construction. I'm taking a unorthodox (for me) approach to building, and working in small sections at a time with out city-wide planning. This helps me keep a better vision of how nearby sections should look, and also has the added benefit of looking presentable much sooner. The city has much more room to grow and high aspirations, so look forward to future updates!
Architecture of the city will be (and is) dominated by large imposing skyscrapers to reflect lack of significant zoning regulation in NYC at the inception of the skyscraper boom. Many skyscrapers will feature neo-gothic, neo-classical, art deco, and revival architecture, with ornate detailed 'toppers' and lobbies.
TRANSIT:
The city features a elevated train line, with elevated stations above roads and open spaces. Eventually, I plan on making a limited underground train network and a Penn Station-esc building that will connect to long distance lines. All train lines will be functional with vanilla minecarts, but appear as realistic as possible. Street trolleys, early automobiles, and horse carriages will be the mainstay of above street-level transit. Other long distance transit will include large steam liner ships in the docklands.
OTHER:
This is work in progress city with high aspirations, and thus has a lot of unused, undeveloped space left to build. Quite frankly, this city will likely never reach full completion, as there always seems to be more detail to add. However, I look forward to sharing the progression of this city as development continues! Unfortunately, a city-wide map download will not be available until a later date. If you have any suggestions, questions, or have interest in specific mcedit schematics/stand-alone builds let me know! Or if you are a fellow builder that could use my help let me know!

Slow but Steady Development. (+more blocks & more detailed buildings!) : by Velodore 11/20/2020 2:27:36 pmNov 20th, 2020
Uni, Coronavirus, graphic design, and just generally life had slowed development earlier this year, but I'm back to work! My priority rn will be to focus on putting up buildings fast in the downtown area, and getting to detailing later. So there's a lot of unfinished buildings & projects scattered about, but I'm just gonna continue a couple city blocks at a time!
