Borodin Class
In 2381, the Borodin class entered service in Starfleet. The Borodin, like it's close cousin, the Ronin class, has been designed to compliment the Kelvin class ships, and augment the Nebula Refit class vessels. However, where the Ronin's primary mission is Exploration and an Assault Cruiser with the combat fleet, the Borodin shares the same role as the Prometheus class as a Deep Space Tactical vessel. With twin mounted Type-XX Phaser Cannons and a Torpedo Turret, this ship has found it's way into both the combat fleet, as well as the long range exploration fleet.
During the design phase, two versions of the ship were made. The Ronin and the Borodin. While Starfleet Command approved both designs, they placed the Borodin on hold till the end of the war, choosing to focus on the Ronin which was a more combat enhanced vessel. After the war, the Borodin project was restarted. Taking advantage of a nearly completed Ronin class vessel sped up the project by nearly 5 years. The weapons/sensor pod was removed and new nacelles designed that allow for longer warp cruises at higher speeds. Science labs are the same as aboard the Ronin, including a modern Astrometerics Lab. Also like the Ronin, crew comfort is high, however one holodecks was removed in the Borodin to make room for a Tactical Astrometerics center that's become very important aboard the Galaxy Dreadnought and Sovereign class ships.
The Borodin's mission profile calls on the vessel to defend the boarders of the Federation, explore adjacent sectors, and to rapidly respond to emergencies as they arise. In wartime, the ship is not only designed to serve with the battle fleet, but to also venture behind enemy lines and attack hardened targets such as Starbases and Shipyards.
