Hello everyone! How are you doing? I’m very exciting to finally show you my shay engine. It suggested as a challenge and I must say, it did deliver what it promised xD
Thought I’m really glad on how it came out! After much trial and error to get all then details of the complex driving mechanism.
I hope you like it and its complexity, probably my most detailed locomotive so far!
This one is the shay locomotive number 6 of the Western Maryland Railroad. She is a class C shay locomotive. That means she has 3 vertical cylinders to the side of the boiler and 3 driving trucks.
This project features the Wester Maryland Shay Number 6, with full cab and interior details*, buit to 3:1 scale.
As always, I hope you like it and to get your feedback! Thank you!
Make sure you give a look at the many renders.
*Due to the lack of blueprints and references some details may not the exact, specially interior ones.
Version:
1.16.4
Texture pack:
My own adapted: Jf train and raiwlay adapted train pack.

THE SHAY LOCOMOTIVES
These are the most used types of geared steam locomotives. They were first developed by Ephraim Shay as a better way to move logs to the sawmill and built by Lima Locomotive Works. They are characterized by a regular fire tube boiler offset to the left side of the frame and a vertical two to three-cylinder steam engine installed on the opposite side. The engine is connected to the wheel trucks via drive shafts and universal joints and each axle was powered with bevel gears by the shaft. Because all wheels are powered, these engine have a very high tractive effort.

The detailing of the drive shaft seems spot on (judging from my memory).
On a side note, why don't you enter this unofficial contest? I believe it full-fills the rules & some more exposure to this nice locomotive never hurts + chance at prizes. Still working on my own entry for that one though.
Oh, if you like more challenges on locomotives, I think I could dig up an another one.
Hmm what contest? Is there a constest going on? xD
And sure I am all listening. Make sure to also vote for a engine on my last post!
just a mere suggestion
Ok, I'll go dig one up & take a look the wall post
