In the ever-echoing empty halls and hollows of the Deep Dark lies the accursed Warden, a sightless apparition guarding its horrid city. Its presence is demanded only by sensors and shriekers, as it crawls out of the cold barren slate. Yet, it is not the only thing haunting those awful tunnels and streets left behind, a lower life form, one with not such an acute sense of sound chases and sizzles there too; a Warder. The Warder guards the halls on the off chance a weary traveler stumbles into its sculky cage, detonating itself. Of course, the Warden, the truest form of fear hears the explosive echoes left behind by such a detonation, but it only alerts him that all is safe in this shell of a place.
In short; ignoring the silly little bits of poorly written lore, this gives the Creeper a more Warden-like overhaul.
