Earth's rotation is slowing due to approaching tidal lock with the moon.
The moon creates tides on earth, but because of rotation, these tides are slightly in FRONT of the moons orbit. So what happens is that the oceans are creating a drag on the planet. Over time, the moon will always remain on one side of earth.
