the_soupAwww, you new judges are so cute. <3
What I've learned from judging is that there are many, many people who would rather blame others on their lack of success than critically take a look at their own work. I know you high-level guys have already seen that, but it's especially prevalent with skinning contests. There are soooooo many people who just won't accept that their skins are not top 10 quality. If they don't come into the finalists, is it because their skin is mediocre? Nooo, of course not. It's because the system is rigged. It's a real pain in the butt because, as a moderator, I can't just say 'well, sorry, your skin is sort of crap' (which it usually is in these cases). Trust me, if you judges haven't seen it yet you will be seeing it soon.
For most new skinners or artists in general their sight isn't usually developed/good yet. To expand, they obviously can look at a skin that is well made and acknowledge the fact and understand why it's good to a point, but when it comes to making their own can only judge their skin on what they know. For instance, personally starting out when I made my first skin it went something like this "Wow, I'm not too bad at this, I should keep making these things." Of course I can look back at my first skin and find probably every flaw and fix it, but only to the point on what I know. In a year, I could probably edit it again with ease. Although, many people do except results quick, and feel like they should be a finalist in the first contest they enter,which is understandable but not realistic (unless they had been skinning before to the contest).
Sight= What you know
Skill= What you actually can do
(Artist's block is caused by sight getting higher than skill)
As a judge the thing that I've learned is that people don't know what the Arctic theme means....Or how to spell "Arctic" *cough* artic *cough
the_soup Edit: In fact, I'd like to issue that as a personal challenge from me to anyone else out there. To any skinners who are dissatisfied with girl skins being, in your opinion, 'sub par', spend a month (or two, depending on your rate of skinning) only creating female skins. Not only would this be a boon to all us female PMCers looking for skins, but it's much more productive than just complaining about girl skins.
I've never found female skin makers annoying, but I do understand why people get tired of all the generic female skins around here; heck even the "teen boy" are worse. I notice I rarely see female skin that make me go "Wow, that's a good skin." Most of the time it's you(soup) that impresses me with female skin, but Leo has made some impressive ones too, there's probably more just cannot think of anymore off the top of my head. I've considered many times on making female skin, just never gotten around to make any...I'll probably get around to making one in the near future.
I do think the challenge is a cool idea, maybe something like the "Cool teen" event thing. An idea, not sure if people would like it, but would be a nice way of backing up the people getting bashed on right now.

what site do I use to upload skins on planet minecraft?
Um, Planet Minecraft , just go to the upload button. If you want to know how to make the actual skin, I'd recommend MCSKIN3D or Skinedit.
