A basic clarification:
Renaissance Era/Masquerade: For the layman, think Assassin's Creed II.
Made-up Superheroes/Original Supervillains: They must be your original creation, no pre-existing characters.
Book/Movie Characters: These however can only be characters from existing books and movies, you can't just make up your own. Believe me, you've got a LOT of choices with this as it is.
Cyberpunk: For the layman, think The Matrix.

I would agree with you there, but I'm a bit tired of none creative contests. Halloween, Steampunk, had something in common. You had to make up your own character. So I want concept to mean more this time around. So Heroes and Villains is what I'm rooting for.
No dark, Super heroes/ villains must win.
I want to make Sergeant Super, a manly man who's power is to make everyone do as he says when he screams at them in monotone!

If we ever did a writing contest, it would be in addition to our monthly skin contests. :] I wouldn't be expecting it any time soon though, we'd have a lot to figure out. Plus, you know, prizes cost money and stuff. XD

im trying to think of really usless super powers for this...
I like how everyone is just "Oh no all the superheroes will be superman!"

We'll slap it on the drawing board, I think there's been talk of this before. I'm an senior year English major in creative writing, and Carole's somewhat of an accomplished writer from what I understand, so we'd have at least a couple capable judges. :]
