Steam crashes on login?
Nobody on the Steam forums has an answer. I thought maybe my fellow PMCers could help.
A few months ago I downloaded the Windows version of Steam on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9) in order to play my wineskinned version of Skyrim. I was playing it last night until it crashed and I had to close Steam manually (Skyrim crashes often, so nothing unusual there). I tried to boot up the Windows version of Steam again, as I always do to re-open Skyrim, but Steam had to update (or so it said). The update took 10-15 seconds (about a third to half the normal download time) and Steam started to log me in. However, just as the little window that said "Connecting to Steam account: evilkittywizard" disappeared (as it always does when my library is loading), the icon of Steam on my dock disappeared.
Maybe this had to do with the update? Not sure, but Crossover (which needs to be running during login) was unaffected, plus neither Steam nor Crossover had any crash reports.
I'd appreciate an explanation or solution; both are useful at this point.

Ok you know that steam runs on mac right? Just download the mac version.
You can't open or install Skyrim through the Mac version
Like what Knightsabers said, simply reinstall steam. (I think) It keeps your steam games when you uninstall.
While you're both true in your statements about help being best found elsewhere, it doesn't mean that we still can't help anyways.
Try reinstalling Steam. You also need an internet connection to start Steam, which I'm sure you know and have.

I reinstalled Steam into a different bottle and it seems to work flawlessly. Thanks!
You're asking this question regarding WINE and Steam help on a website full of 11 and 12 year olds.
Sorry, you won't get much help.
And nobody on Steam is helping because you're using WINE, it's not official and they aren't going to support you.
Just use bootcamp.

Well, I can't help them. ( meaning I am one of those ages. )
This isn't necessarily true, but as he said you'll probably have more luck elsewhere.
Ok, sorry. 95% 12 year olds.
like yourself, as you said on another forum?
Yeah son, you know whats up.
