If you could add a use for one ore
What if you could add a use for one ore in MC that currently doesn't have much of a purpose? There's a poll for you to vote for which ore. If you would like, you can post below what you would make the ore do.
Also, I do know ruby is not currently in MC. It was going to be added in MC, though, so I included it as an option. I also know obsidian is not an ore. It's similar, though, and doesn't have much of a use.
If you like this forum post, please check out my other forum post. It's called "The Prosper Modpack Needs Ideas!". Thanks.

Huh. I really expected obsidian and emerald to have the most votes because I figured there'd be a lot of "i voted emrald becus they can make tools and armur and stuf!!!!1!"
I'm glad people aren't always as n00by as I think.

OMG! This is the best idea yet! I mean, just wow. You are AMAZING!!
You know what I think? I think Jeb is adding way to much crap that Minecraft doesnt need new random crap that nobody uses, they need to add uses to the items that are currently in the game. Honestly, I barely see anyone using Hardened clay, and whens the last time someone has used emerald for trading, I mean honestly I dont even bother with emerald because its easier to make the stuff rather than look for a hills biome and look for emerald. My reaction to hardened clay was "Seriously Mojang? You can do better than stupid clay." Anyone agree with me? BTW I would like a use for emeralds or Lapis
I think they should work on adding more uses for the current things in the game mostly, but still add a few completely new things.
Hell yeah, I'd add some use for lapis. All you can do is make lapis blocks, and different colored wool/clay.
Agreed.
but dude nice idea an obsidian cannon that's awesome
Agreed.
I was thinking of like quartz armor. or something like that
I thought up something similar. The nether quartz armor was as strong as iron armor except for the chestplate, which was as strong as diamond. Every piece of armor was crafted like normal, except for the chestplate. The chestplate needed 7 nether quartz and 1 nether star. If you had a full set of nether quartz, you would take no fire and no wither damage.
I think Lapis Lazuli should have two different drops:
One being the Blue Dye it drops now, which is practically useless
But the other being some sort of gemstone you could use to craft Armor and Weapons with like you would Diamond. Obviously the gem should be rarer than the dye. But it would give me a reason to mine Lapis, rather than for exp.

Interesting idea.
obsidian cannon
I would love to have a cannon that shoots obsidian.
What about gold? Who ever uses gold armor or tools? I think gold nuggets, block, and ingots should be used as some sort of currency in villages. So in one village their currency is emeralds but in another it's gold. I think this will add more variety to the game.
I like the idea of 2 forms of currency. Emeralds would be the best currency since emerald is rarer than gold. Maybe there could be village bankers and you can trade in gold for emeralds?
Gold already has uses....
Everything you can vote for already has uses except for ruby (gold can be used for golden apples, obsidian for nether portals, lapis and other ores give XP, etc.)
But the ores on the poll don't have many uses.

My mod gives every ore but lapis (working on it, dont worry) a use, tool, item, and some can be turned into wands and goggles that give you special powers etc. It also adds alloys such as Quartz Alloy and Steel Alloy, adds titanium, rubies, gems/crystals, endium... Check it out, at MoreMinecraft.
I've seen your mod before. It looks pretty cool.

Nice idea.
Lapis, maybe you could make a type of alloy, with emerald/diamond/redstone used for a mob repellent, or even a infinite type of redstone (travels as far as you want).
I like the mob repellent idea. I thought up something similar, before. I called it the Quartz Defender. Basically, it kept mobs from spawning in a 70 block radius. It required fuel, though. It used coal as a fuel.
i wonder whos gonna win =)
anyone who voted for nether quarts or obsidian are those who perfer to auccly write about what this topic is about instead of just picking your facirote color...
Quartz has a molecular formation that causes electricity to be made when it is put under stress. Vertical Pressure plates anyone?
Sounds interesting.
personaly i think emeralds and lapis are too emired no one really cares if something gets added to them they just like the stuiped color...
I picked emeralds because yes, emeralds are my favorite ore, and because I have ideas for what to use them for.
I Believe your idea if it is for a mod would be extremely easy, it is the basics of minecraft modding
I know. I'm in three big mod development teams.
I didn't really plan on putting any of these ideas in any of the mods, either, but I might look through the post for good ideas. Than I'll ask them for permission to use their idea and give them credit for it if they say yes.

i think lapis should be remove for inaproite looks >=)
Lapis should be used for new redstone devices for example clocks/timers or one block AND gates or other gates. I also think emerald should be used in more crafting recipes like how diamonds are used in juke boxes emeralds could be used in expensive blocks.

Agreed.
lol emrelads and obsidian are still tied obsidians break the tie!
I'm a big fan of sapphires, mainly because of a fan fic I wrote, but I really want to see sapphire pick axes o3o
They probably won't add sapphire, sadly. The reason they removed rubies was because they were red like redstone. Sapphires are blue like lapis. They might still add amethyst or topaz, though, if you like either of those gems.
And before anyone gets confused, no they didn't say they were going to add sapphire, amethyst, or topaz. They still might add amethyst or topaz, though, if they add a new gem.

I'm going to be going offline, soon, so I'll respond to the rest of the posts tomorrow.

Thank you for all the posts. It helps a lot.
I doubt I will put bedrock, but I might.
I would actually like to see enchantment rings in minecraft. You start with a plain gold ring Which you enchant with fire, respiration, sharpness, etc. If you right click the ring a slot appears which you put lapis in.once the lapis ring is made another slot is created withing the lapis ring which you put obsidian in and that becomes an obsidian ring etc etc. When you do this your rings enchantment becomes stronger. So here's the chart.
Golden ring- enchantment level 1 (takes away 25% durability from the item being used.)
Lapis+golden ring- enchantment level 2 (takes away 20% durability from the item being used.)
Obsidian+Lapis- enchantment level 3 (takes away 15% durability from the item being used.)
Diamond+Obsidian ring-Enchantment level 4 (takes away 10% extra durability the item being used)
Emerald+Diamond ring- enchantment level 5 (takes away 5% extra durability of the item being used.)
Ruby+ Emerald ring- (Wild card) lets you get the best enchantment for any item you're using, but in turn it takes a random amount % of the durability of the item you're using. So say you have a sword, it ma give you level 5 sharpness, or level 5 bane of arthropods, etc. then you take out a bow and it gives infinity 1, or flame aspect 5. ect.

Amazing idea. It adds an extra use to all of the ores except nether quartz. It even adds in ruby ore. Okay, so I was wrong about the emerald armor idea. THIS is the best idea so far. The emerald armor is 2nd.
HOW DARE YOU SIR PUT OBSIDIAN AND LAPIS TOGETHER HOW DARE YOU!
I would freaking LOVE to see Obsidian Tools or at least a Sword. I mean it was used as a hunting tool back in the old days on certain Pacific Islands.
Yeah, obsidian was mainly used to make spears. Maybe they could add spears? You can only make flint spears and obsidian spears. Obsidian would be the best spear, obviously.
Obsidion, because lets face it, slaying zombies while wearing black armor with a black sword and both of them can basically never break is just to awesome.
