With the arrival of these new updates, 1.6, 1.7, etc, you have to have asked yourself:
What will happen when Minecraft reaches 2.0?
Will they make an entirely new game?
Will they just stop updating?
Will it just be like any other update?

It may stop updating. All the rewrites coming in 1.8 suggest that the plugin API will be part of 1.9. After that is released, continuing to update the game would be pointless. It will literally update itself.
Mojang has already said that Minecraft will not reach 2.0., it will continue on to 1.10,1.11,1.12,ect..
Probably will Include: Optifine, Birds, Bees and wasps, More Weapons, More Armor, More Crops/Plants, Like Cherries!, An Underwater Boss, Squids might have sound, better FPS (less lag) And maybe a Friend system.

Many people have fought over it, if it does (eventually) get to 2.0...who knows. For all we know its just a little update to fix around five billion bugs. And ofc create more bugs with fixing bugs, but no one can fix that.

actually that is the most likely thing to happen, version numbers are not decimals people, a 1.10 can exist in version numbers, look at tons of other games with updates, alot of them that have been around awhile have 1.10, 1.11, ect.

I highly doubt this, due to the current amount of source code in the game, and the ability for Java to run on (almost) every OS. Plus, why would they change the language? Also, minecraft depends on LWJGL and OpenGL to work, those are currently only avaliable in Java.
(And LWJGL stands for Lightweight Java Game Library, it was created by Grumm before he worked at Mojang)

I just hope they finally include the mod Optifine into the vanilla client... They have been adding more and more that optifine has why not just add it all. xD
Capture the Flag mode (I hope) will happen. Maybe new mobs. They could also redo the default texture pack. But, I mean, the give pretty big updates with 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, etc... so what could they do for Minecraft 2? I think we're gonna have 1.20 before we have 2.0

It probably won't be at 2.0, but minecraft will be free in like 10-20 years. Notch said a long time ago he'll make it free once they're out of ideas, inspiration, or mc just got too hard to keep updating.

There will be less than 2 years space between MC 1.7 and MC 2.0, so I don't know where you are talking about.
Minecraft will feel completely differently. Better graphics (they already have shaders implemented into Minecraft), advanced movement, less bugs, better (and more) mechanics, and the list might go on and on...
Also, a new update with Twitch integration is coming in about a month, so keep in mind that these kind of things will be implemented too.

Perhaps a massive makeover of the game? Re-code the lighting engine, optimize it, just like any other update, but absolutely huge. A few new things maybe, but I want lag-reduction most of all. I play Minecraft on a toaster, so optimization would be fantastic.
