I think gold ore in the nether would be an awesome addition to the game, but it should be rarer than gold in the overworld.

THEY DID BOI
Yeah. Do you like it?
Well there you go. They have indeed added this in Snapshot 20w11a :D
yup :)
Well, we have it now! great! I guess this thread is a little useless now, but it was fun I guess.
Personally, I say no. I think gold is already at a perfect rarity in its physical ore form (game wide). If it were to get a nether counterpart, then the rate at which it spawns in the over world should (in my opinion) be lowered and the gold or that would then spawn in the nether should spawn at a much lower rate then what it does in the over world.
Once the nether is accessed, a player can make a gold farm (getting rid of the need for mining). The mining of or (in my opinion) should remain mainly an over world thing. And if there are any ores to be added to the nether, I'd rather it be something new all together and not something I can already get elsewhere.

They are adding a new material type that can only be obtained in the nether, and you need gold to use it as well.
I was mostly thinking of it as a lore type thing to explain where piglins get their gold gear from, rather than anything remotely gameplay related.
Then maybe nether gold ore could only spawn around structures that link it to the lore? Maybe within an X amount of range of a Nether Fort?
Personally I believe certain ores will be rarer in different biomes in the 1.17 update which i assume will be a cave update but that is just a theory. I don't think they will add gold ore to the nether but it would be a neat little touch.
Instead of just making it rarer, I think it'd be more balanced to make it so it gets smelted into gold nuggets, rather than gold ingots. Remember, gold in the nether would be easier to find due to the nether itself being a huge cave.
Or you could make it even rarer, as in diamond level rarity.
It'd still be easy to find due to the amount of exposed blocks in the nether. Coal on the surface of a mountain biome is just as rare as diamond at diamond level, yet surface coal seems common than that of diamond.
I'd say something like a rare gold scrap block type of block that drops 1-2 nuggets would work best. Possibly make it more frequent on the roof of the nether to contrast Netherite and spawn small in veins of 2-5 with the rarity of diamond.
I'm not so sure about that because gold, like diamond and emerald ore, is supposed to be a rarer mineral, and adding it to the nether would offset that balance. Also, gold is already obtainable in the nether through pigmen, both through there swords, nuggets, and full bars
Well as a lore writer, I'd love an explanation as to where the piglins and zombie piglins get their gold gear from.
I think they should, but they said they won't add it sadly...
very interesting of mojang, and a good choice in my opinion
Oooh, now that would be quite cool.
It would make a lot of sense, with netherite, and piglins.
It should be more common in the nether than in the overworld, to make up for the risk of running into lava.
