i dont really know why people pay for "propper" server hosts when a vps is generally better for 1/4 of the price most of the time

so depending on what u mean by server it could be a yes or no from me, even if its just for single player and just want the conveniance of plugins getting a cheap server will help out a lot in the way of performance

You are talking about dedicated?
I mean 8GB ram and 100GB storage does not mean much if the CPU is not listed or the storage method.
Btw if you are and say vps is better value do you have a few examples of where that is the case? this will help op in their decision.

Is buying a server worth it?
No, if you are trying to make money it is going to take a while before that happens, and prepare to invest a lot too.
However....
I run a small community and have fun with these people (all ages) and that does make it worth for me.

Yeah, i'm agreeing. If you have enough money to keep a server up for over 6 months and pay for advertising, you can. Just use money wisely. If you have, let's say, $300, don't spend $50/month on a 8gb server. You'll be out of money really quickly. Know what type of server you want to make before you create it
It really depends on the hosting provider. Some hosts are as cheap as $1/month for 1gb but can be very bad at support tickets. Others can be at $5/month for 1gb and be top notch at support tickets...
