Youtube Red?
As you may have heard, youtube is releasing a new subscription-based service. It is called Youtube Red. It costs $9.99 a month, and it removes all ads, and allows you to watch certain exclusive videos. I would like to hear your opinions on it.
Personally I don't mind the ability to remove ads from youtube for a fee. I understand why they would do that, since some people would want to remove the ads even if it meant spending a few bucks. However I dislike the thought of making certain videos exclusive, even if they are made specifically to be exclusive. I don't really care about not seeing those videos, but I worry that the time spent making those videos will have to be taken from the time being used to make their free videos. For example, MatPat (TheGameTheorists) has a exclusive series for Youtube Red. He already only releases 1 theory every few weeks, in addition to some streams, and I worry if he starts filming for Youtube Red, he will end up having to minimize either his theories or his streams. I don't know how much YouTube Red will expect different YouTubers to film for it, but I sincerely hope it isn't enough to cause a reduction of main channel video quantity/quality.

I don't really, I don't know. I am not interested in YouTuber red and its not like its available in my country anyways nor it will be I bet.
As a YouTuber and Let's Player, this really maddens me. Personally, I disable ads on my videos so that people watching never see ads on my videos if I can help it, ad-blocker or not. If you had an existing partnership with YouTube and you decided that you can't or won't sign up for Red, they'll make the majority of your videos private so that no one else on YouTube, paid or free, can view them. I've never seen a bigger screw you to a community than with what YouTube has just done. I really hope this doesn't last, because it's not YouTube anymore, it's TheirTube, and I'm disgusted by how they treat their community.

Guess Youtube have never heard of a thing called Adblocker...
They're just monetizing YouTube like everyone monetizes everything. They'll ramp up the prices and force people to pay money they might not have to watch 'exclusive videos'. I think it's wrong to force people to pay money for stuff on YouTube, the ability to watch anything you want, whenever you want, wherever you want, was part of it's attraction. It was a media in which anyone could contribute or enjoy.
It'll start out with a few videos here and there that'll cost you and then every dope in their basement will want to make YouTube red videos so they can make a few pennies, eventually making it difficult to find quality content that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Or it'll plummet, crash and burn like paid mods did with Steam, people will throw massive fits and riot until everything goes back to it's pristine, free old self again and everyone will forget anything ever happened.
Personally - as you can probably tell - I hope it's fate is the latter. I'm not a huge YouTube guy, but I'd rather it be a paywall free website.

Nothing is really going to change. I feel that content is still going to be available like it always is. It's similar to when Vessel became a thing, nothing will really change.
Can't you just remove ads with Adblock?
You could... but you wouldn't be supporting your favorite YouTubers. There are some ways to support them, directly donate to them... subscribe to YouTube Red and watch thier videos, or watch the ads.
Yeah, that too.
I really don't like the idea of that. If Youtube Red is to happen, then eventually the entire youtube system would be all exclusive, and slowly destroying youtube. People may still do regular free videos, but the amount of exclusive videos would eventually catch up. Removing ads aren't bad though.

I agree!!!!!!!
I think YouTube Red is a failed interpretation of Twitch Turbo...
I like YouTube Red. I think its a good profit idea, and isn't overly expensive.
