What to celebrate instead of Valentines' Day (half-joking)
It's the time of the year when everything is red (even more than usually), covered in hearts and cupids and everyone's talking about love...
Are you tired of love being used as just another mean to make people buy things? Are you single and tired of emphasizing romantic relationships?
I prepared a list of other holidays on this date.
1. (this is a serious one, I'm not making fun of it but it's coincidentally on the same date)
February 14th 2024 is the Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. It's celebrated by some Christians.
The main event is a mass when the priest places ash on people's heads. It's also a fasting day.
2. Anniversary of forming the Home Army
Home Army (Armia Krajowa, AK) was an underground army in Poland during the Second World War. It was formed on February 14th, 1942. It was one of the largest resistance movements in Europe.
How to celebrate it?
It's not an actual holiday but I know some people who celebrate it. Light a candle in your window at night on 13th or 14th February.
3.Anniversary of launching the battleship Bismarck
The German battleship Bismarck was launched on February 14th 1939. It was the largest battleship built by Germany and one of the largest ones in the world. Probably this anniversary is celebrated only to replace Valentines. If you know more about this day, share it in comments. I noticed only posting about Bismarck online and complaining about Valentines Day.
Some real holidays that I don't know, so I can't share how to celebrate them:
- Cyril and Methodius day - Valentine is a Christian saint, so why not celebrate other ones too?
- Statehood Day in Oregon and Arizona
It's also the anniversary of the outbreak of the explosion.

Some Indian Events
- Vasant Panchami/Saraswati Puja - Vasant Panchami is celebrated by the devotees of Mata saraswati, the hindu goddess of wisdom, wealth, art and learning. A tradition in my area is that people don't touch books here on this day and instead worship them (so, no school). It also marks the arrival of spring
- Pulwama Terrorist attacks - Also known as the Black day in India, the pulwama terrorist attacks 2019 was one of the most terrifying terrorist attacks on Indian soil. The culprit of this attack was a suicide bomber from aterrorist group based in Pakistan called "Jaish-e-mohammed". 40 CRPF were martyred

Explosion?
Yes
It's an inside dark joke, my best friend's neighbor tried to leave this world in an unforgettable way.
She woke up in the middle of the night, grabbed some things and had to evacuate.
