Honestly, I don't have a problem with this they're either one of these 2 options

1. They tell you to sub to someone, while telling you a few good reasons and sometimes showing off their art
2. That person is a friend of theirs, who they want to help for the sake of being nice to that person

If it's just a "GO SUB TO THIS PERSON ASDJAHDIUASJDAHSDAJHSHDAKSHJD", I don't mind it, but I find them slightly annoying in the masses

i'm fine if it's something like "hey look at this person and some of their cool stuff [​links and/or images to said cool stuff] consider subscribing to 'em because they do an amazing job"

but beyond that i'm neutral/leaning on finding them annoying depending on how it's presented

When someone else says I should subscribe to someone I usually subscribe to that person, but if they themselves are begging I'll take a look at their content before making a decision

I think a safe place for non-spam promotion is PMC chat. There is almost no one who could be annoyed by this, and you can make people see your content in that way.

I think it's uncouth to ask people directly to subscribe to you. I assume someone will subscribe to me on their own if they want to. If I asked them, I'd feel like I'm trying to guilt them or put them on the spot.

so, they should make it properly worth it
just asking for your sake and not even thinking of the consequences is low-handed, and if you really do deserve the subscribers, they'll come

"Others with reasons" strikes me as being akin to the recommending party pointing at interesting material — which I take as well intended (even if the material cited is not to my taste).
