If I remember correctly, accounts have a unique number attached to them. Once someone is banned, it's that static number that gets the boot.

Either way, there's no way that Mojang would allow name changes to circumvent bans.

I wouldn't really care for name changing. If a player gets banned on a server. There first username will still redirect to there new username. Understand?

This will happen with any game. Jeb and Notch just has to implement something that allows bans to be on an extreme level, such as deleting the server from the server file, and not allowing that IP to be retyped into the game, etc.

You cannot bypass it unless you recreate your minecraft account. Because each ACCOUNT, not name, but ACCOUNT comes with a unique ID.

I exactly agree with you, Koslaw99. Even if Mojang uses some static number system ID, people would easily find ways to get through ban-lists and servers would be in chaos.

Yes but even with that and the name changes, you would be able to re-write local code to pickup somebody else's account id. Ie. KoolKid1 Changes name to KoolKid2. Then BannedKid1 Changes name to KoolKid1 and uses the old static number.

Unless you've got some middle man haxor system set up.. Which isn't that hard to block, faking an ID and having it validated with mc.net will be as hard as faking a regular username. Validating someone else's ID will be near impossible, unless there's a lingering 0-day exploit which will be patched quickly anyhow. Nicks won't be banned, only ID's ..

If someone has enough time to struggle to rewrite code just to rejoin a server. Then so be it. Ban them again.

Point is Mojang if you all remember made a game to make money. They don't give a * about anything besides that.

Not true in the slightest.

Why not just implement a cross-server nickname system? That would work and not cause any problems, with a simple /userlookup (or similar) command to look up a user's actual username.

That is a horrible idea. Someone is spamming, swearing, griefing. You have to lookup their real username, then ban that which gives them more time to continue doing that. Then there will be servers like cracked servers that mess with this and people would change their names to real names associated with real accounts.

1. If that's the situation on servers you're playing on/run, that's your problem. On my server, it is literally impossible to spam in any way, shape, or form, and I don't use 50-some-odd plugins to do it, either. I use one. Besides, it doesn't take long to look up a name, and it'll be even harder to look up and type an ID number.

2. Cracked servers aren't supported by any team, Mojang and Bukkit alike. The plugins would have to go by the user's username, not their nickname.

Also, I forgot to mention this (I have the entire plan written down), but the nickanames would have to be unique to other nicknames as well as the normal usernames.

I would not say that they would not allow this.

Mojang is also going to open up there vary own hosting. Then it will be true chaos. You think people fight for new players now with paying $200+ just to have there server sponsored is bad? You think right now its bad with top servers DDOSing each other just to get above them? Well just you wait, once a 11 year old has making a server right in his face it will be true chaos.

I'm not saying big servers will fall. But they for sure will lose money and I don't care who you are and what you say, if you host a 100+ player server it's all about the money.

Also if you think about starting a new server after that, well good luck to you.

Point is Mojang if you all remember made a game to make money. They don't give a * about anything besides that.

But more on topic. If you cant ban someone then jail them within your server. First find there home and remove there items.

Reply to all:
-Mojang will work out whitelisting/blacklisting
-It will most-likely just be your display name, so account names will still be blacklisted if banned recently on a server.
-I'm sure you cannot use an existing name that an account uses, or the display name of someone else.
-To me, it seems obvious that Mojang would work something out instead of ruining bans on servers/the servers themselves.

I do believe it was simply a case of Mojang allowing display names so it would be likely that the admin could if they desired permanently ban someone........also it is actually really hard to alter Minecraft's core files or use a proxy so it isn't like that is a serious problem.

What if the name is still attached to the account? Like when you change your xbox gamertag, its still linked to your account. So if you get banned from a server, your still banned, name changing doesn't do a thing. I think it would be better to only be allowed to change your name once, then after that you have to pay for it.

I think it's a bad idea no matter what security they have. Because then people might use say my username, on different servers. And if they say something bad or something and get hated. And after I join that server, I'll be the hated one :/

The Mojang people will work something out, and if they don't, they won't add the feature.

I really hope they figure out how to get it to work, though. I've wanted a name change feature forever.
