I think the correct way to say it is actually "GIF", but it really doesn't matter how you pronounce it.

honestly at this point there is no official pronunciation because, even if it was originally pronounced jif more people pronounce it gif

The creator of Graphics Interchange Format stated that it is pronounced with a soft G, like "JIF" or as the modern people would have it, like the peanut butter.
However, many people state it is GIF as Graphics isn't Jraphics.

Yes, it was meant to be a pun on that. Keep in mind this was quite a while ago by now, the word has left the lab and entered common use, where the creator's control no longer applies. His authority on the subject does not make him right, people prefer to say it as ggggg still, for various reasons.
Prime examples:
JIF is already used in programming language.
Gift, the word linguists agree to be the closest one to GIF is, well, you know.
Even with the Gi- words that are said as dzi- being twice as many as the ones that are gi-, the gi- words are twice as common in usage.

Lmao what if the g in 'gif' is silent
What “if”
I hate to break it to you all, but uh-
[from wikipedia:]
the Old English word gif "if" (pronounced "yiff")

bruh.
aight
The creator himself said it's pronounced JIF, not GIF
i typically just play it safe and spell it out. "gee eye eff"
Only took seven days for someone to bring up the Anglosaxon one.
Gif j-i-f
LOOK UP "how to pronounce "Gif"
it says "Jif "
it says "Jif "
Stop screaming.
Also, I did that, to see what you saw.
The top result is :
“It's pronounced JIF, not GIF.” Just like the peanut butter. “The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations,” Wilhite told The New York Times. “They are wrong. It is a soft 'G,' pronounced 'jif.26 Φεβ 2020
from a Time article, showing a timeline on the matter.
The article does not say that this claim is sufficient.
(if you looked up about 10 or more questions on Google in the past you might have noticed how the quotes Google automatically picks up from articles and forums about a question can range from the correct answer right away to something completely unrelated )
In fact, I read through it and one of the links (https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/69147/why-pronunciation-gif-really-can-go-either-way ) just says there is no right or wrong, which is the answer given by the Oxford English Dictionary itself (really, look it up if you really really want).
Furthermore, the listed article right after ( https://www.newsweek.com/100-percent-wrong-pronunciation-gif-483374 ) argues for /g/ and it is the most recent one, the only event on the timeline afterwards is about a collaboration between GIPHY and the peanut butter Jif company-thing.
Which in itself is another reason to not say gif as dzif, there's already a Jif, there's little reason to call it jif when a Jif already is used, whilst there is no gif used.
There's also that JIF Raster Graphic thing, which is also used in computing terminology.
After all, the most popular way to say it, according to everything I've heard, is /gif/; if there is no sole ''correct'' way, you might as well give that name to the most used one.
Now that you runned (why is ''runned'' scribbled with a little red line? I spelt it properly...) through my 300-word paper, I reckon you should read those articles, they are really good.

It's not runned, it's "ran"
Thanks.
Though that is a good point to bring up, runned is not official but common enough for it to be included in the dictionary I went through as ''good enough''; it is not universal but still accepted on few occasions, sometimes.

that's cool i guess. it doesn't explain why you think it's gif though.
All my life, I've pronounced it gif, and gift is pronounced gift not jift. Anyway not to throw a spanner in the works but the oxford English dictionary supports both... lol
the fact that you've pronounced it gif all your life is reasonable, but the second reason you stated is not. some words have soft g's such as gym general and gin. most g words with the vowels i e and y have soft g's. yes, there are exceptions like gift. there is a wikipedia article with all of the exceptions, there are about 70 words on that list, out of 19500 g words in the english language, so it's pretty rare.
about the oxford english dictionary, im pretty fine with them accepting both because the word gif is pronounced gif by many people.

Hey-o, that’s an “Appeal to Authority” fallacy!
(what @SPACERACER242 said)

The creator himself also said that the Oxford Dictionary is wrong to list both as correct and that only /dzif/ is correct.
His title does not automatically make him right.
