Win8? Good luck in he-.. Err, nether.
Just a side note, your profile picture really trips me out o-o
Every time he posts, I think the same dang thing XD I could watch it for hours...
Anyway, a tip: It's up to you if you like it or not. I can't really tell you any "tricks" except learn the format and have another computer with windows 8 in case you need to restore it and can't get on the internet to look that stuff up. But again, it's up to you if you like win8, if you do, good. If you don't, that's good too. Opinions are opinions and they don't need to be turned into blood baths.

You, obviously have a lot to learn.
BLAH BLAH BLAH HATE HATE BLAH INEXPERIENCE BLAH BLAH SHEEPLE BLAH
If you like the start button, get a start button program. You can get them for free.
If you don't want to see metro (I'll call it whatever I dam want to M$) then get a script that bypasses it.
If all else fails and you really want to get that Win 7 feel back, get classic shell. http://www.classicshell.net/

I'd say.... Enjoy your new operating system and get to know where everything is and how it functions. Best to know as much as you can about it.
Downgrade to windows XP.

To all of you who are complaining about not being able to use Win8 after using other OS's, get off you lazy but, and figure something out for yourself. Thia thread was for friendly advice, not another place to let your emotions flow out. If your only advice is to downgrade, then do that yourself and shut up.
Anyways...
I personally love Win8. You can customize the start screen, to have the icons where you want simply by dragging them. It has an app atore, which is awesome. I love that it sure has email, skype, and other very useful stuff on the start screen. (If you are on a laptop) you can slide your finger accross the touch pad to switch applications. You can delete running tasks without using task manager. Personally, this is waaaaaay better that Win7, and it doesn't take much to get used to.
Good luck!

That 'appstore' is part of the problem. Microsoft seems to be learning towards a closed-system PC. The Internet does not approve.
All your doing is letting your emotions flow. Not giving tips. Hippo... crit...
Telling them everything that you can do with Win8 is giving tips -.-
Windows 8 is actually much faster than Windows 7. However, this is about the only thing going for it, unless you're using a touch screen. The Start screen isn't terrible, but that's the only thing Metro i use anymore. You should definitely stick to the Win7 interface as much as possible.
nice outlook of windows..........
Please keep this thread on-topic. This thread will be locked if there is anymore arguing about whether Windows 7 is better than 8. That's not what the OP made this thread for.
wait for the update
Be happy you have it. Win 8 is way better than win 7
Uh, windows 8 was made for tablets and not pc's. it sucks. and if you have it, you should have found out that thare is a lot of slideing the mouse around. made for tablets
I have it. Way better than win 7
I agree. I try to lower my volume and stupid menus open up due to the "hovering" thing. I feel like Windows is trying to turn PCs into tablets and that's ok, except people who NEED a PC with a keyboard or a format meant for a computer get screwed in the process.
Downgrade to windows 7.

Darn, that's what I was going to say
I saw the title of this thread on the sidebar, came up with a snappy answer, saw the OP, and walked away sad...
Seriously though, Windows 8's "user-friendliness" is user-unfriendliness for anyone who knew their way around any other Windows OS. Metro probably sounded good in planning, but implementing it for the desktop version of Windows 8 was a bad idea.
Tip:
You could just completely disable Metro to make it as Windows 7-like as possible.

Ohhh thanks for the tip! I'll see if I can find that.
You hit the nail on the head - this really wan't the OS that was meant for desktops.
However, there may be some good news looming on the horizon:
"Microsoft may be bringing back its traditional Start Button, which had been discontinued with Windows 8, in the upcoming release of Windows 8.1 later this year, according to multiple media reports on Wednesday citing sources familiar with the plans.
The company may also be bringing back the ability to boot straight to the desktop, rather than having to visit the tile-based Start menu screen first."

Although, if you don't want to wait..

Downgrade to Windows 7.
Seriously.
Be frustrated with the format for the next month or so. Then give up, give into the stupidity, be frustrated every time your internet gives out and you can't switch to a different connection, spend 10 minutes finding simple things, regret life, watch some youtube and make me some rice crispy treats.
But srsly. Windows 8 has been nothing but frustration to me. First update they did for my computer gave me blue screen all day. And their blue screen of "death" is nice and "friendly". I ended up denying the damn thing from updating for 6 months.

^THIS RIGHT HERE^
This, and some more additions... Probably paragraphs of complaints and downsides from me xD
Oh I know, me too. I prefer windows 7 and my school computer runs on it. I tend to use that computer for EVERYTHING, instead of firing up my personal laptop because Windows 8 is just frustrating. They've managed to make it so user friendly that it's user-unfriendly and a pain in the ass to do simple things. You have to learn the format all over again and it's a bitch to find half the stuff you need.
But yeah, I could go on. I'm sure we both could write a book about why we hate it XD

I've been using Windows 8 for the past two months or so, and I've really enjoyed it.
Not many tips I can give besides learn the keyboard shortcuts, its a lot easier.
