How much FPS is too much?
I have a very important question...
So I got a new computer, its amazing, 60FPS on games like Planet Side 2 with maximum graphics. So I decided to install SEUS (A shader mod) to my minecraft. I get around 50FPS while playing, but when I start recording with fraps it drops to 15-20.
So If In Machinima's and other videos, would you rather watch something with an amazing shader mod at 15FPS, or 30 at normal minecraft? Any tips on how to raise my fps while recording would be great.
EDIT: After some optimization I can record with 25FPS

The human eye perceives anything above 25-30 FPS as fluid motion, so if you run OptiFine and change all your settings to maximize your FPS you should be fine.
*Edit: The eye can register anything up to about 300 FPS, but that is complete overkill for videos. Most movies are filmed at 30 FPS, and high FPS will tire the eyes due to the excessive feed of information to the brain.

120 fps is enough for me because my monitor doesn't output anymore than that.
Hey mate it isn't your computer that will just totally give you a frame drop, it is fraps because it only records up to 30 fps
I'm pretty sure the most so far is 2000-2500
SilverKyttenOff topic, but I disagree.PenguinLoverMinecraft normally runs at 6fps for me and the highest i ever got was 90fps (6 years ago, on a really old computer) so i'd say SEUS on 15fps
Except Minecraft hasn't been out for six years. Typo, or trying to seem "cool?"
On topic: Record 25 - 30 FPS, you should be fine.
On the FPS comparison topic: A human eye can see 40 - 60 FPS max. If you talk about having 500, it really doesn't matter.
The people with the intense computers who get 500FPS average
Without recording: Fps of 140-200
With recording: 70-100
With recording: 70-100

I'd go with the Seus shader. It'll be different from most of the other Minecraft videos out there.
You guys saying "30 FPS is much better" don't know what you're talking about. As long as there's no lag (I.e, jumpy/slow reactions), you honestly can't see any difference.
OP: Don't worry about your FPS. Worry about the gameplay. If it's smooth, then it's good. If it's choppy, drop the shader. Simple as that.

60 FPS is not amazing. I just got a new computer and I get 130 without Optifine.
This is so far off topic from what I meant this thread to be..
My question is, would you rather watch a video with 18-25fps but with the SEUS shader mod, or 30fps with normal minecraft. Note youtube maxes out at 30fps NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS!

The human eye has to see 30 FPS for it too look smooth. Anything below that and it looks like it is chopping. Above 80 is pretty much pointless, because it doesn't make a big enough difference. Once at 100 it just all looks the same.
50FPS is like 200 fps You cannot tell the difference
but when it drops to like 30-20 FPS you start to feel the game sluttering
Here's a little meter (Effects may be various to different types of eyesight)
100---Godmode FPS (Realtime FPS 0 sluttering Great gameplay)
80
70----Good FPS (No sluttering unless something big loads)
60
50
40----Decent FPS (No sluttering but slutters when loading terrain)
30----Normal FPS (mini sluttering)
20
10---Bad FPS (Lots of sluttering)
5
1---No FPS (Game Freezing 24/6 and uncontrollable)
My lappy normally jumps from 30 to 100 fps constantly with just minecraft open

Oh god its hard for me to play any game under 80 fps
Human sight can't doesn't have a Frame per second limit, I think.
It's just how much our eyes can percieve, I believe.
It's just how much our eyes can percieve, I believe.
Our brains stitch together moments, not frames. It seems to flow rather than see one frame at a time. Because of this, the human brain does not have a limit. However, at a certain point the brain will no really be able to see a difference.

Is that a joke?

BoboonskiDasDuriel"too mutch" starts at a insane number where the human eye cant keep up and creats motion blur (way over 50k)
also most monitors will have problems with screen tearing/stutter at big fps numbersAnything past your monitor's refresh rate (60 these days).
YouTube limits uploaded videos to 29.95 as well I believe, so I don't think there's much sense in going past that.
monitor refresh rates go from 50-140 (and above... but those are to expensive)
also youtube limits to 35
Actually, the human eye doesn't notice anything above around 70 fps. Not... way over 50,000
You're actually both wrong. The human eye can only see 30 fps and that's it. Fun fun.
i dont know cuz i get 15-30
If you're wanting to make cinematic and machinima videos - then you need to install the 'cam studio mod' I can't recommend it enough - it lets you create fluid camera angle paths and record the footage at very slow speeds.
(You can then speed up the footage when you edit it - if you have a 2minute clip at 15fps, speed the footage up 200% and it will give you a 1minute clip with 30fps)
30fps is all you need for minecraft videos.

The clouds/mobs/player's will also be fast forwarded though wont they? :/

Here's a good idea, drop FRAPS, it's overpriced and really isn't worth the framerate drop. With the screen recorder I use, I can have it running and not notice a FPS drop at all.

First of all, close useless programs. I usually close explorer.exe to play gta sa. To reopen it just do ctrl alt delete then start a new process then write explorer.exe. I also recommend you go google the best settings for minecraft to have the most fps. After, set your os style to Windows 98 wich will get you around 15% more performance.
I get 30-50 fps on a laptop with a server running and Minecraft. And sometimes Chrome. Not bad, but I'd love to have more. Seeing my friend gets 5000fps with full graphics. (I'm really jealous XD)
5000 or 500.... i have a top of the line custom pc and cant even get that... and by top of the line i mean hardware that is 3 mths old and designed for gaming and high processing power..
i get on extreme settings with optifine (extreme distance, all things to full and stuff) with shaders on 90-120fps when recording and 150 when not... on far distance setting and top settings with no shader get 400-700 depending on the area i am in..
BF3 however sit on 120-150 fps in ultra mode without recording...... minecraft isnt a great game for optimizing its settings lol very resource needy
That all said i aim for 60fps in videos and then compress them to 30 for youtube, any more is overkill anyway if you are not actually playing something you wont notice it

5000 is correct. I didn't believe it when I first got told until I went to his house and used it. Full graphics, 16GB ram, Nivida something graphics (forgot which one). But very good at gaming.
My minecraft plays regular at 400 fps
When I record I use sphax animated textures and record with this, I record my videos at fraps limit wich is 120 fps.
My dad is a graphic designer so his computer Is for rendering big stuff, works awesome for gaming

500 FPS = Slow motion

Make sure with Fraps you've not got it set yo restrict your FPS, that is an option.
No such thing as too much fps until you get the motion blur thing..

Tank u gud ser!
Too much? I think 350+ is too much.
Over 9000
If we could possibly achieve that....
*facepalm*
Use optifine, change all the settings to max FPS, and limit fraps to a steady 25FPS, this looks fine also I find going into full screen can increase my fps by 10-20% some times. Also also! put it on peaceful and remove all the mobs. Also also, I can't remember why but if you World Edit the ground within the loaded chunks of where you are so there's no caves that can increase FPS.
Hopes this helps,
Zoxramman.

Err to go into full screen Minecraft use F11, but Fraps doesn't monitor Minecraft when you use that so just go into Minecraft options in game (with Optifine) and select full-screen on.
Also also also, use magiclauncher or something to run MC with more RAM, I get a steady 110FPS with 3.5GB.
What type of cpu do you have? I've given Minecraft 3 gigs of RAM, and I get about 40-50 fps with a 32 pack, in 1.5, without Optifine. I have a dual-core 2.49 GHZ cpu.
Thank you very much
Minecraft is about the slowest game I've ever played -.- and there isn't much "Unnecessary" stuff on my computer considering I got it on friday
I have 16gb of ram.
I'm going to change a few settings and see how much I get...
30FPS is the maximum available on YouTube, so anything higher is pointless if I'm recording.

Well if you record at 60 frames and render at 30 frames you can cut out some stuttering from the video. Antvenom does that
Closing other programs, increasing ram, and decreasing graphic settings like 'Fancy' all make minecraft run smoother
Remove unnecessary files on your computer. it helped me
That won't help get better FPS.
Fraps will limit your FPS to about 30. You can make it higher but 30 FPS is just fine. 60FPS would be optimal. I too use shaders, though my computer is a beast, you can find different settings to turn off and it will help increase performance.
