It's quite expensive for my pay check, only $175 a fortnight. If you have any suggestions, please post them!

As August has seen a large price hike, I might wait a while to buy all the parts.

You'll have to go and rebuild the build, because this will probably be outdated once you are willing to build. (my PC was outdated a week after I built it)

Ok so I think I can help the most here as I am Australian as well (I can tell from the shops) and making my own PC as well so I will put some suggestion maybe even another list

Two builds: (I am also deciding which one of these builds to build my self, probably the intel one)

And I was talking about the Pentium 4 I probably should have stated that.

The Pentium 4 was released in 2000. It was last shipped in August, 2008. It had an x86 architecture (meaning to say, it was 32-bit) and had a clock speed of up to a whopping 3.8 GHz. It's highly unlikely that there could be a Pentium 4 in Random's computer, seeing as it only ran 32-bit systems, including the OS. And, in 32-bit OS's, the maximum amount of RAM accepted is only 4 GB. I happen to know, by the way, he has a G3220 in his system.

I was never talking about random's computer.

Either way, the astounding effort one would have to go through to acquire a Pentium 4 would be much less worth buying a G3220. The Pentium 4 has been off the assembly lines for 6 years.

EDIT: Adding on to post in order to keep it concise and not stray off topic.

I changed your build up a bit. I'm going to put in little notes through the build, to keep it better and more consistent.

Build
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($245.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($109.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Memory: Kingston Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($95.00 @ Centre Com)
► Your original memory was only 1333MHz, and with DDR4 coming out within the next few months, you'll want 1600MHz RAM. It also takes advantage of dual-channel, which will improve performance a little bit.
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($149.00 @ PCCaseGear)
► Your original SSD was 250GB, which was fine, but I chose this slightly bigger one that has the same price/GB. It's a good budget SSD and it should have enough space for all of your important files.
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($63.00 @ Centre Com)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Double Dissipation Video Card ($349.00 @ PLE Computers)
► Your original GPU was a 290, which is a great card, but the 280x may be better for your budget. It's more or less the mid-range card for AMD's current lineup, with budget cards being the r7 series and the 270/270x, the 280/280x bringing the middle, the 290/290x being the high-end market, and the 295x2 bringing up the enthusiast build. The 280x still maxes out Metro: Last Light with a very playable 51 frames, and it should max out whatever games you're going to be playing.
Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.00 @ Centre Com)
► Just a cheaper case. Your old one was very expensive. This one has a window, is red, and has USB 3.0. It's an all-around case.
Power Supply: Silverstone Strider Essential 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($79.00 @ Mwave Australia)
► Upgraded your PSU. Silverstone makes simple, no-frills PSUs. Should fit the bill.
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/RSBS DVD/CD Writer ($20.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($109.00 @ Mwave Australia)
► You shouldn't need Windows 8 Pro. The features included are really just bonuses, and the average home user won't be using them much, if at all (probably the latter).
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN881ND 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($17.99 @ Mwave Australia)

I beg to differ. Randomness himself has a Pentium and it runs all his games fine.

It will bottleneck the GPU

It depends on what gpu you have. The main point of getting a Pentium for gaming is that it has a good upgrade path. Pentiums are fine.

To max out bf4 at 60 fps u need a decent GPU and that will be bottlenecked if u don't have a good enough CPU.

And I was talking about the Pentium 4 I probably should have stated that.

get the R9 280 graphics its sick,

i could build this rig for like $1200 at fry's electronics, without the frills

CPU doesn't matter? It does to a point. Like if u try to run bf4 on a Pentium u will not get good fps.

57r4dI'd go with this RAM: Slightly faster because of dual channel

That ram is more expensive and dual channel ram doesn't improve performance much if any improvement

It's also faster from the increased clock speeds, I'd never recommend 1333 Mhz RAM if possible.

RAM speeds don't effect performance as much as u think
U might get .2 FPS higher. Even this I doubt will happen.

Btw, I'm not changing the case. Whatsoever. Also going with 8, although it has lack of support for dragon age :sheds a lone tear:

Windows 8 is absolutely fine and there is no reason to not get it, especially with support for 7 stopping soon.

Wish you could say the same about vista...

I will, for the moment, use 7, and when the need arises, will use the windows 8: home premium disc lying on my desk.

A few suggestions from me: that motherboard is overpriced, you could go with the Z97 pro4 from ASrock. Like everyone else has said, 16 is too much RAM. You might also want to get a larger power supply for safety. You do not need a sound card, onboard audio is fine and you wouldn't notice a difference unless you upgraded to an external amp/DAC. Finally, you won't need that expensive of a wireless adapter.

I need more than 8gb of ram to due to the high consumption of all of my games (over 7.5gb) plus my anti-virus stuff. Is it possible to add a 8gb and a 4 gb ram together?

No game is gonna use that much ram at one time. Unless you're playing 3 games at one time? (Which isn't possible)

Maybe it's just my laptop then? I can only use 7.6 ram out of its 'supposed' 10. Built-in obsoletely?

I decided to mess around with your build and came in at (I think?) less than half the original cost. Judging by your original build that you came up with, I don't think you want to overclock. Because of this, I was able to bring prices down in the CPU area. I also have a less powerful GPU in your PC, but this can be changed. The build can be made even cheaper if you switch out the 280x for a 270x, which will still max out (almost, if not every) games on 1080p, and then when AMD or nVidia comes out with new cards, you can buy one of those because hopefully you will have saved up more money by then.

Lol guys just leave it up to the PC Group guys, because most likely they know more than you and will be way more helpful to the OP. Also, referring to a quote in the last post, really you'd want 8 cores of anything rather than an i7? So much facepalm.
