There is no proof that herobrine is fake.
There is no proof that herobrine is real, but also that he is fake. Mojang could delete code....... Maybe they didn't want us to know about herobrine...... and and plus, the image of herobrine is so pixelated that it is hard to tell wether he is real or not..

People have said that the image looks flat, but the image is so pixelated that you can't really tell. Also, something very sussy is that the exact bugfix update that herobrine was recorded on is not in the MC launcher anymore.
Alpha v1.0.16_02 is NOT in the launcher anymore... only Alpha v1.0.16. not the 0_2 part. A mojang worker could have added him into the bugfix. Once mojang heard about herobrine, they might have took him out and updated it, deleteing him FOREVER from the game.
so we don't know if he was there or not. I think this is the only legit sighting of him.

My idea is found footage: the player is struggling to survive their first night in Survival mode, but luckily comes across a mansion to sleep in (basically Herobrine's mansion).
When the player wakes up, they found out they're in a different room than the one they slept in. The player explores around, and the scene ends in a jump scare of Herobrine's face!

My dad knows absolutely nothing about creepypastas so he couldn't have made this up. Well, anyways My dad and I were playing Minecraft (Xbox one edition) and I had to go to the bathroom, So I left and asked what had happened while I was gone and he said, "I saw a Steve with white eyes, so I covered him in dirt, and he disappeared." I was young at the time, so I said, "YOU ENCOUNTERED HEROBRINE! THE MOST POWERFUL ENTITY!" My dad replied, "Well he wasn't that powerful because he disappeared when I covered him in the dirt."
It was very serious to me back then, but now it's not that serious anymore xD

No, it isn't. The page for the version on the minecraft wiki has it. You can download it yourself, look at the code. Extract the .jar, you can look at the files. You can verify it's legitimate because the download for it is hosted from mojang's site. If someone at mojang did add him as a prank, they'd have revealed it quite soon after.
