That was actually rude... Let him try, it's apparently his first build and we all failed when making our first build.

Ok so, here's what you need to change.
1) The CPU. You should throw in there a Haswell CPU or even a LGA 2011-3 socket i7.
2) You can get a better CPU cooler for that price
3) You need to change the motherboard so it can work with the CPU.
4) Too much RAM. You won't need 16GB of RAM unless you run a server, game and use Photoshop/render on 1 PC simultaneously. Either go with the cheapest DDR3 1600MHz CAS 9 8GB RAM (if LGA 1150 socket motherboard) or with a DDR4 2400MHz CAS 16 or even 15 8GB RAM (if LGA 2011-3 socket motherboard). Preferably 2x4GB modules.
5) There are better and cheaper HDDs for the price.
6) Those GPUs aren't worth it. You can either 3-way SLI 3x970 or just wait for AMD Radeon R9 3XX series to come out.
7) You can get better cases for the price.
8) You can get a PSU with higher efficiency when you can spend so much money on a PC.
9) No need for Windows 8.1 Pro edition.

Here's an edited, better build.

It is making a part of your computer or your monitor run a higher clock rate than usual. This can speed things up but can also cause heating issues. Overclocking is mainly done on CPUs and occasionally on GPUs, and sometimes on monitors.

GatheringTree ... What kind of computer hardware is needed to run, say, MC using a 256K x 256K resource pack with maxed out video settings?

... I have an opportunity to purchase a slightly used AMD FX08329 eight-core 3.5GHz Processor/Gigabyte AMD AM3+ Motherboard... I have tried MC on this computer and only get it to play 128K x 128K resource packs. Anything 256K x 256K will just crash it.... That computer has an XFX AMD RADEON R7 250E Core Edition 1GB Graphics card and 8GB of RAM onboard...

If anyone is playing MC with 256K x 256K resource packs, please share your knowledge, and what hardware you are using. Thank you.

Thank you, ContinentalAir, for that information.

I received this by private message and consider it a best answer to my specific question:

"The problem is just the graphics card. 1GB Graphics card can only hold a 128x128 in minecraft if you wish to run a good 256x256 or 512x512 then you should look for computer with at least 2GB Graphics card. RAM is fair enough to have a 8GB. The processing unit (CPU) is not that important AMD XFX 3.5GHz is fair enough. Just look for better graphics card and you should run a 256x256 or even 512x512 without any problems."

Other private answers to share with this forum string include:

"Well, my computer is only dual core with 1.4 ghz and I am able to run 256x256 with Optifine, however to run it I have to open task manager and set Java's priority to high. But I would think that 3.5 ghz would run just fine. If it doesn't (but I really think it would) you can open task manager, right click Java, click on details, right click Java again and set priority to high (assuming it's Windows)."

and

"Hi, you would need an common PC CPU, nothing very big, nothing very fast, even an older CPU is sufficiant, lets say anything >2ghz and the more the better. The mentionend 3,5ghz sounds more than sufficiant, but I dont know about your mainboard and its versions, but I can't imagine that's the point of the issue.... ... If MC "crashes" then you may have an memory issue. Use Java64, set it to 2gb java ram usage. Deactivate mipmapping, anti-alias, mipmapping (called diffrent within diffrent MC-versions). If it works try to reactive the option."

I agree there is a lot of great stuff here about computer building. But, I was hoping to discover more about building a computer with details specific to MC.

What kind of computer hardware is needed to run, say, MC using a 256K x 256K resource pack with maxed out video settings? These are the kinds of answers I am searching for in PMC when looking to build a computer. But I don't want to overshoot this goal either!

I have an opportunity to purchase a slightly used AMD FX08329 eight-core 3.5GHz Processor/Gigabyte AMD AM3+ Motherboard for $125.00

I have tried MC on this computer and only get it to play 128K x 128K resource packs. Anything 256K x 256K will just crash it. He plays other high end games that are fully maxed. Apparently MC is not such a low end game after all when using 256K x 256K resource packs. (That computer has an XFX AMD RADEON R7 250E Core Edition 1GB Graphics card and 8GB of RAM onboard) I've heard this is a 2.0 motherboard and have no idea what that means. The person selling motherboard/CPU wants to upgrade to a 3.0 in order to get a better graphics card for it.

The monitor used is a 1080P 48" flat screen TV.

If anyone is playing MC with 256K x 256K resource packs, please share your knowledge, and what hardware you are using. Thank you.

You mean 256 x 256, right, because I've never heard of any 256K x 256K texture pack. Your CPU looks totally fine and so does the RAM, but the problem is the GPU. AMD Radeon R7 250 is actually an outdated (not old) GPU and even when released it was intially meant to be an mid-entry GPU.

A 256 x 256 texture pack was never that easy to run (even stronger PCs struggle running a texture pack like that) but Minecraft itself is actually pretty easy to run and is counted as a low-end game. So, if you want to play a 256 x 256 texture pack, you need to upgrade your GPU.

Could you give your current specs? It could be the cpu/gpu that is causing the problem.

Hiya!

I have been working/saving up for the pas 2 years in order to buy a computer, but my budget has only came out to ~$600

I'd really like to put a Compter together by the end of this year...

So i came to you guys!

(Also anyone else exicted about GTA V w/ first person coming out tommorow?)

What is this computer going to be used for?
Gaming
(Heavy)-GTA/Battlefield 4
(Light)-Minecraft
Graphics
Heavy(Rendering)
Light(Photoshop)

What is your budget?
~$600
Include amount and currency.
~$600 U.S.D

Where do you live? If in the US, do you have a nearby Microcenter?
U.S, but considering there are only 25 locations, naw
Your country lets us know what sites you can order from. If you have a nearby Microcenter they have some great in-store only deals that you can take advantage of.
True that, but ill pay for shipping i guess

What is included in the budget?
I'd Like a Cheapish Tower, doesn't need to look fancy...
No operating system!
No monitor!
Things like the tower, the OS, peripherals and monitors.

Will you be overclocking?
I would like to have a toggle to overclock, in order to get rendering done faster/when playing very processor intensive games, but can you make to builds, one with overclocking parts and one without? You don't have to, of cource, but it would really be nice if you could!
Overclocking will require different hardware than a non-overclocking build so we need to know this.

Will you be reusing any parts?
If you are reusing parts list them here.
I have a HP Pavilion dv6-6c35dx
(http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... c=en&lc=en)
That includes a extra 8 gb ram that doesn't work on this computer, though
I cannot seem to open the computer up to get the parts

What OS do you want?
Windows 8.1
Say which OS you want or say if you already have a copy of one.
Already have it

Any specific case preferences?
Nope, but something black (even with toggleable lights thats cheap) would look good
Size, color, etc.

Any other special features that you want in the build?
A hybrid would be good, but they arent cheap, so mabye a ssd, 1T, or a hdd
Dont need raid, a new wifi module would be nice (Is it the 802.11ac the newest?)
Stuff like an SSD, large hard drive, RAID, and wifi

This is a scrub question but which is better for gaming? AMD or Intel?
I'm just trying to build a cheap but good gaming computer.

Intel. Better performance per core.

Even though AMD has more cores, doesn't make it better. Intel is starting to get up there though. 6 cores with hyperthreading.

So yeah... Intel

BUTTT: if cheap is your option, depending on your budget, I'd probably go with AMD.

Yeah, it depends on what budget you have, and what exactly you're doing with it. At a lower budget, and you want to render videos, AMD may be the best choice. But just depends what budget.

Swimmer1929Hi. Sorry if this is a newb question, however I noticed that it was mentioned that it was possible to use an HDD in conjunction with a smaller SSD. Is it possible to use just a single 1 TB (or so) SSD if the budget allows?

Yes, you can use a ssd as your only storage if you want. However, it normally isnt feasible since they are so expensive. One would probably be better to spend their money elsewhere imo.

Yes, it's very possible, and some higher end budgets only use SSD's. But for most people it isn't cost efficient. Because last time I checked, a good 1tb SSD was around 550 dollars.
