Hello!
So I'll be graduating soon and I will basically need a new laptop for University/Gaming/GFX and all that what not.
I'm currently on a budget of between $700/800 (Australian Dollars) and would at least be able to run games on medium/high settings. Please don't bombard me with 'get a desktop' comments, as I'm well aware of how much more efficient they are. I'd prefer a laptop due to being mobile in terms of moving out to campus and having the ability to take it around to classes as such.
Thanks for the help!

TBH Most people who hate on alienware are just the people that cant afford them.
That's so far from the truth. No one hates on them, they only point out their flaws and how they are not good computers for any budget.
I dislike alienware's because they are the Apple of the PC Gaming world, they are overpriced, and have a toxic fan base full of 12 year old "Minecraft youtubers".
I dislikes Lambo's, but I guess that's only because I can't afford them right? Or maybe because they aren't that great of cars, and a c7 z07 with a few cheap mods can out run it while still being 100's of thousands of dollars cheaper, not to mention I don't like the looks. But no, I only dislike them because I can't afford them, according to your logic.SenpaiBlaze
I'm not sure if I would believe the story of their laptop melting..
Honestly, it's pretty believable. Alienware is known for horrible cooling on even their desktops, with tons of room, so with a laptop, it's safe to assume (or know, like everyone here that has ever worked on one) to think that the laptop will overheat very easily, and a very good chance of melting the plastic around the GPU and CPU.
I am not a "12 year old minecraft youtuber" and I am still an alienware fan. They also don't overheat as much as people tend to think, and you do get what you payed for.
I never accused you of being a 12 year old minecraft youtuber. I'm just stating the majority, much like the Razer Blade fanboy's.
And no, they do overheat, I've worked on plenty of them.
x51 comes with one small fan, over heats, but not nearly as bad as the bigger, Aurora does.
The Aurora comes with 2 fans, and liquid cooler for the CPU, well the liquid cooler is absolute crap. You'd get better temps with a stock 1150 cooler. 90-110c on a liquid cooler under light stress is not normal for a 3930k. Throw in a cheap h80, and it will easily drop to 40-60c under high stress (on average).
You get what you pay for, yes, then a $600+ "Alienware logo tax"

No, no one is hating, just saying how that is a terrible choice. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean they are a "hater". I hate that term.

Alienware is overpriced for the parts. Sure, it can run stuff decently, but another computer can easily cost less for the same specs. Also, Alienware has incredibly poor cooling. I've seen stories of people having their cases literally begin to melt because of how hot it got.
Macs are even more overpriced than Alienware.
As for the OP, try getting a laptop with an A10 processor. Its APU will more than likely perform better in most general games. It won't be amazing by any means, but its integrated graphics runs better than integrated Intel graphics. You'll lose some processing power compared to an i5, but since you want to play games on it, it'll overall perform better for that price range.
I'm not entirely sure how to change currency on Amazon, but 700 AUD is equivalent to about 500 USD and this is 450 USD so it's within your price range.

Well this is kind of a sucky laptop, but the integrated graphics will work better than other laptops in a similar pricepoint offering GTX 820m's.
^ I'd go with this. The 5500 is essentially a better version of the 4400, which is what I have myself. You'll be able to run Minecraft, Skyrim, and even Dark Souls 2 pretty well.
Though if you're looking for a long-term investment, it's worth considering the option of saving your money for an i7. That's much more of a niche purchase considering the i5 is more than enough for most people, but it'll hold up from a quality standpoint longer than the i5 will. Personal choice.
Unless you're doing rendering and video editing, you shouldn't get an i7 and stick with an i5. i7s don't offer significant gaming performance over i5s.
I can recommend you the MSI CX70!
I am using it, and it works great, fast and smooth (well mine is kinda overloaded, so not that fast anymore...)

My best 3:
Alienware
Apple (Macbook pro)
Razor Blade (touch screen!!!)

ALIENWARE'S are awesome. I always love using them. However they cost a bit of money, but they are worth it.
I wouldn't recommend an ALIENWARE laptop, they easily get issues and I have seen a lot of negativ comments about them :/

Macbooks are nice but aren't built for gaming

Nope, I've used an alienware for a couple years and i am satisfied with their amazing performance. If you are here to hate, leave. kbye <3

I make enough money to buy an Alienware every two weeks, but I'm content in spending about the same on a custom computer that's twice as powerful. I don't hate them; they're just like every prebuilt - marked up and spec'd down.
Why would I pay for a name when I can get better performance for a lot cheaper?

Yeah just the basic games, nothing too over the top like GTA V or anything. Thanks
