Living Fishing is a data pack for Minecraft that slightly changes how fishing works in the vanilla game, it makes it so instead of catching fish items you will now catch live fish instead! I just recently got into making data packs and thought I would try something like this out because it seemed pretty neat and possible to do. It uses some clever tricks by modifying the fishing loot tables and spawning entities instead. This data pack also utilizes Timber Forge's clever system of entity motion, you can find out more about it at the video link here.
This data pack also makes a small change to the fishy business advancement in the vanilla game to be compatible with these changes so that its still possible to progress through the advancements. The current chances to catch fish through fishing includes:
50% chance for Cod
20% chance for Salmon
20% chance for Pufferfish
10% chance for Tropical Fish
These are probably not final as I will probably add biome requirements in the future that changes how often you catch a type of fish in any given biome. If you find any bugs please let me know of them, I'm still pretty new to data packs and functions so it's possible that I broke something but I didn't find it during my own testing. I'm also not 100% certain that this pack will work in versions below 1.16/1.17 but feel free to test it out and let me know how it goes!
If you'd like to see an example of how this looks in-game click here!
To install the data pack unzip the file and move the 'Living Fishing' folder into the datapacks folder of your world and make sure to enable it in-game using the '/datapack' command!
