Creating a Vanilla Minecraft Server

The Full and Easy Guide by fisherman77

Hello! I'm fisherman77! I've tried everything with Minecraft, whether modding, making texture packs, building cool stuff, or modeling. However, this tutorial is for one of my favorite parts of Minecraft (tied with mod making :)) - Minecraft servers. I was making Minecraft servers before I even started playing the game, much less purchase Premium. So, let's get on with the tutorial:

Requirements:
  • A Windows operating system
  • A router (that you own/have permission to configure)
  • Minecraft Premium Account NOT needed

Steps:

1) Go to minecraft.net/download. If you can't get to the page, make sure minecraft.net is up by checking here. If it isn't, just try again in a 1 - 2 hours.

2) Download Minecraft_Server.exe.

3) Put your newly downloaded Minecraft_Server.exe inside a folder. I recommend a folder on your desktop, for easy accessibility. Do NOT put it on your desktop, unless you want your desktop to be bombarded with a bunch of files that the Minecraft server generates on startup

4) Launch Minecraft_Server.exe. Startup files will be generated and a console will pop up, so if a bunch of random files pop up in your folder, do not be worried.

5) Connect to your very own Minecraft Server! Launch Minecraft and go to Multiplayer, add a server (or direct connect) and the server IP address needs to be localhost

6) Op yourself. This is done by typing op [YourUsername] in the console. You can now kind of explore the benefits of being an op by using /help ingame.

7) Stop the server. This is done by typing stop in the console.

8) Port Forward. This makes it to where people that aren't connected to your router can connect to your server.

9) Go to ipchicken.com. It tells you your public IP address. Give this to other people to have them connect to your server.

10) Go play some Minecraft with friends!

More tutorials will be made covering stuff such as the server.properties file, creating server for mac/linux, etc., but enjoy your server for right now!
