You are about to read an actual school English essay assignment. This was 100% improvised writing with no prior research on the topic aside from what I already knew. Whether I followed the rules or not, this is what I am turning in. For the heck of it, I wanted to see what you guys think of my perfectly biased opinions. Have fun!
What are America's Values, and how do they Shape our Identity?
That was the question I was asked, and it’s a strange one because I’ve never heard of American values. For now, I’ll assume they’re talking about specific values or needs that trend among all Americans and perhaps no one else, specifically North Americans. Although something doesn’t seem right about that definition. I can pin down a few things that slightly cross everyone’s path in America, but I know that there are plenty of people outside this country that have these same values. Even more, I know some people including myself who don’t even have any of these values on their mind, despite being American. So… what is it really that is shaping America’s identity?
To find out what causes said changes in America, we need to know how the human mind works. Of course, we could just be typical and use modern day memes to cover it and say that humanity is losing brain cells, but that’s not what our readers want to see. Instead, let’s start with money; North America is a particularly wealthy country. Whether you’re a healthy entrepreneur giving out jobs, or exploiting people’s desires through gambling like they commonly do in Nevada, it’s safe to say that America has a lot of money to work with, despite being in major debt. Money is important to many people because it allows them to collect goods that would normally be difficult to collect on their own, especially food. It gives the human mind pleasure to know that with each dollar, they become more powerful and wealthy, so it could be said that money is the true influence of North America and its people. People from other countries see the opportunity to obtain more of it through the many jobs available in America. Now, although I could end the argument here with that statement, there’s something more important to consider when thinking about how the country shapeshifts, which is how people act with their money. I believe that it’s what people do with their money the influences how the country is shaped and viewed, while money itself is just the way to drive it forward. This could be either good, bad or worthless, although many of us believe it’s all starting to fall apart. Take, for instance, the “Fidget Spinner”, a toy that skyrocketed in popularity during the year of 2017 that did nothing more than spin with virtually no friction. People would spend their money on those as opposed to items considered to be human needs. With many other products doing a similar trend, it brings up the question of what humans really value when it comes to shaping their lives within the country of North America.
As for trying to understand what attracts humans to certain things like fidget spinners, it’s something that varies between humans. Like I said before, not everyone represents the “American value”, which is why people shouldn’t judge or generalize everyone who lives on the same piece of land. Each and every homo sapien was born with a desire and goal in life, and no matter where you’re from, all of us are capable of reaching our personal inner values.

Maybe....
As an American I should probably know what my country values are...
