Hello!
This is my first blog ever, i made it to defend myself and my fellow WorldPainters/clarify why we want to get paid for our work for large public servers.
I have seen that there's a lot of negative thoughts about WorldPainters getting paid for their work for RPG/SG servers... Mostly when I say to those who sends me a PM asking for a map.
Let me explain why we should charge money for our work. All server earns money on there donations and kits. All server owners earn money. So if they earn money, why shouldn't we? Normally we used weeks on map. Would you use hours of your life on something you wouldn't get something for?
Normal payment for two hours work for plugin developer is 50$, because every server owner wants their server to be unique, they hire builders to make their server more unique, so why shouldn't WorldPainters get paid?
I assume that you wouldn't waste hours of you life. Let's compare this to something in real life, for example farmers, they work hard to make food for you, selling pigs, cows, corn etc. They sell it to a brand that makes food out of it, cheap enough that the buyer earns money, but not cheap enough to not earn enough money to live normally. Let us now pretend that the brand didn't pay the farmer. Do you think that the farmer still would be doing this?
Just to clarify a bit more, I love doing this, that's why I post some terrains once each sixth week. Those are public for you guys. Because I really enjoy all of the great people that I've met here at PMC you're great! So I hope this makes you understand why me and my fellow WorldPainters, wants money for all our work. And NO i wont do 32kx32k maps for free!
That's it, I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoy writing this.

This blog on the other hand... i dont really agree with the statement.
Server owners try to get donations simply to get help paying the monthly bills to those who ''host'' the server. Those who host it must get the money for power, reparations etc.
The ammount of Donations that the server owners recieve is horrible on the most places.
The few who are successfull in getting loads of donators are lucky and few in numbers.
In short, my conclusion is that about 90% of the server owners make no profit and even give away money to maintain their server. Why do they do that? For the fun of the members who want to play online. (or because they have no idea what they are doing, but that is another subject)
And be honest, you worldpainters started with it because you do like to do it, right?
It became a part of the game, and must be done for fun.
The point about a farmer getting paid is indeed a good point, but.
Do the players on minecraft get paid for playing the game? no, they are not.
Doing things like worldpaint, voxel sniper, worldediting worlds must be for fun, not for commercial goals in my opinion.
That you waste time for these maps, and a lot of times... yeah true, but you knew when you bought minecraft that it would be time consuming, right?
Atleast i knew, and wasted 6 years in maintaining a online guild.
I allowed it to change my life, to consume some free time, to change myself.
The ammount of work in it had been insane at some points.
Never did i ask for money to all the members who joined that guild in the past.
Neither will i ask money to those who join it in the future.
And why, because it is for fun.
I cannot demand you to stop asking money for your creations, neither do i want to.
But think about this the next time that you put your new earned money in your pocket;)
Anyway, you did a great job on all that terraforming.
Greetings!
Yep at the other hand. ..
It isnt a good manner to demand you not to post the map on here.
It remains your creation indeed.
Which means they do not need to go away with all the honour.
In that case i understand your story too.
Keep up the great work!
On the other hand if the map is used on a small server with no commercial interest I would give it for free. It's just the case that I understand that many people would feel very bad if somebody was making money on something that they put so much work and love in. Casting all the thoughts about community, the fun of making a map etc. you have the right to feel cheated if somebody just makes money on your stuff and doesn't show any basic gratitude (or any at all).
Its good that you made this article though. Terraformers really do deserve more cred than theyre getting and more pay! :o lol
but to be honest, if I'm doing something I love, I really couldn't care less if I'm not getting paid for it, I mean I've been known to spend a week or so on a single model (my own area of expertise,) and at no point did I ever think "I should be paid to do this", I was just happy people used it and enjoyed it.
That and I couldn't sell armbands to a drowning man but whatever. But I'm not a world painter so I can't comment on the process you go through to make things, but from what I gather it can be tedious, perhaps more so than Techne/TMT modelling (which I can say get's very tedious).
i would never ask for a reward, but to be honest, if someone offered me one, I'd take it as well, I really don't see why people could complain about that.
Diamond to you. :D
