*EDIT* Thanks for my first pop reel <3
Hey, everybody! It's Frankelz :)
I am a person that has been playing on various white-listed SMP servers for a looong time now, I won't name them all, but on all of them, pranking is allowed. We all prank each other, doing various little practical jokes, messing with people's builds.
The question is, when are you going too far? When does "pranking" turn into outright griefing? Today's blog is going to give you some tips on how to avoid pissing off your friends and being called a "griefer." (note: These are just my opinions on the subject, based off of the people I know and the servers I've been on).
Let's say you're playing on a server, and you decide to play a little practical joke (or "prank" as it's often called) on one of your friends. He's just got his first few diamonds, and he's storing them in his dirt house. You decide to encase his entire house in obsidian, so he can't get in, just as a joke. Or so you thought.
The next day, you log on, to find that your friend has found your prank. He is extremely annoyed at you, and swears at you. You are confused, as it was just a joke, and wasn't meant to hurt anyone. This blog will hopefully help you avoid this situation.
One quick little note before we start. Just because you prank someone and they seem to not care, don't be fooled. Many people are annoyed by pranks, but decide not to let the person who pranked them know that.
So let's get into the "rules"

First and foremost, you have to know the person you are pranking. If you know the person get's angry easily, it's best to go with an easy prank to clean up. If the person gets pranked often, and they seem not to care, you could try a slightly bigger prank, but keep in mind, no matter how amusing a prank is, no one enjoys spending 6 hours cleaning up.
Next, please be creative with your pranks if they're going to be hard to get rid of! No one enjoys being encased in 5 layers of obsidian, it's a boring overused prank that is hard to clean up and looks ugly. If you can't think of a creative prank, that's fine, but go for a light prank. If you're going for a creative prank, that you think will get a laugh out of the person you're pranking, then go for it! But keep in mind, know the person you're pranking.
     Here is a great prank:
It was built by AnderZel of the Mindcrack server. (backstory: Anderz accidentaly killed a bunny of Arkas's called "Snuggles" and Arkas put a huge "RIP Snuggles" sign in Anderz's base. Anderz then built a copy of Snuggles's head and hung it in front if Arkas's base).
This prank is creative, funny, and not too hard to take down. Much more interesting than an obsidian prank.
One more piece of advice I have for you is: Don't just do pranks on servers. Don't be "that guy" that pranks everyone and contributes nothing to the server. Nobody likes that guy. His pranks are more annoying than most.

Thank you for reading this blog :D Hope it helped.

The cover shows a burning house.
I would consider that as griefing.
It is only a prank when no permament damage is caused, when no important builds get destroyed and when no one loses valuable items.

Locking somone in an obsidian cage is funny.
Locking somone in an obsidian cage with lava is not funny.

Well probably I should have explained the thumbnail. I agree, burning someone's house down is griefing. The thumbnail was meant to kind of show the difference between the pranking and griefing. It wasn't well explained. Even though "pranks" are technically when no damage is caused, a ton of people get annoyed when you put an obsidian cage around your house. I'm not saying it's griefing, I'm just saying that most people don't lik it at all.

I guess it's down to your opinion.

As a member of a Whitelisted SMP, myself, I know the troubles of pranks going too far. A member of ours was down right griefed. Someone had logged on, stole TNT from a nearby base, blew up the victim's base and wrote Herobri in fire. Not Herobrine...Herobri.
