Steve could have sworn he had heard footsteps approaching, yet the moment he ceased swinging his pickaxe everything fell silent.  Shrugging it off as his imagination, the miner returned to his task. Suddenly he flew forwards onto his face, a weight slamming against his back and pinning him to the ground. Hearing the sound of a spider he prepared for the searing pain of its fangs. Instead… nothing. He felt the monster shift its weight, an indication that it was attempting to bite him, however it seemed unable to pierce his skin. Climbing to his feet, Steve knocked the spider to the ground and turned to see the zombie lunge at him. The man threw a punch at the undead fiend in self-defence, striking its face. However instead of the expected, leathery texture of its skin he felt a hard, smooth surface. Without leaving him the chance to investigate the mobs fled.


 


Strange… the creatures had been unable to harm him and had felt… fake. Steve glanced at his hands and froze. Instead of the usual, blocky stumps, his hands split into two clear digits. The dark haze that had always surrounded the cave cleared and he could see beyond his world. What he saw was new. A giant room, full of huge toys. That was when it all made sense.  Steve was not who he had believed, not real, but a toy. His reality was not what he thought. Maybe the same goes for yours.
