The Lady In The Snow (Current Work)

I was out cold in the snow, and when I woke up my eyesight was extremely fuzzy. I tried to reach for my glasses, but they weren’t there. I blinked a couple times and then my eyesight was suddenly better than ever. I could see everything crystal clear. I was somewhere in the Sequoia Backwoods, behind my mother’s large cottage. It was snowing, even though we were only elevated at 1200 ft, which, according to the weather report from yesterday, was not going to get snow anytime. Like, at all. I puzzled and puzzled on this fact, since it never snowed here in this humble town of Jintesurri. I started walking on a golden path which was obviously carved for someone special, but I wasn’t exactly, “special.” I was known as the shy and quiet 12th grader who had an odd skill in art. I walked and walked for what seemed like hours, when I saw a lady in a white flowy dress and long white hair. I was starting to feel worried, so I decided to start walking back towards home, but the path home somehow disappeared into the snow, and I was surrounded by trees. So I decided to walk towards the lady, when I heard my name being called. “Enya….Enya……...Enya…”

“Enya wake up!! You’re 20 minutes over your sleep schedule and we’re gonna be late! Come on!!”

Mom had startled me out of my perfectly peaceful yet weird dream, and I had to hurry and shove my glasses onto my face and get ready for school. I got dressed in the usual: dark indigo skirt, red plaid long-sleeve overshirt, and a green tank top under that. It was then my mom started screaming for me. “I’m coming!” I had to run through the red-painted hallway, and through the nicely decorated parlor and down the three flights of stairs. My mom always made me walk to school, since she thought her car was too ugly, so I told her just that. “Oh no you don’t, little miss attitude,” she proclaimed. “You’re riding in the car, punishment enough, period.”

“But mom--”

“No buts! If I hear another word out of you, I’ll buy back the paddle and I won’t hesitate to use it on that behind of yours!”

I sighed with frustration. In the Lance family’s bloodline, paddling was a cherished tradition, since sixteen of my ancestors came from a very proper household, where there were dumb and specific rules that probably weren’t even that necessary, like, no tea spilled on the red-and-black-patched velvet carpet or no running around the 8040 x 5000 spaced 8th floor parlor with red velvet heels on and stuff like that. I come from the family line which invested in the artificial island of Tehicon, which now has a population over 2 million (and counting), which is absurd, since it originally wasn’t designed to fit that much people in it. The minimum amount of money allowed in my family is $200,000, otherwise you aren’t classified as an official blood member of the Lance family, and you’ll be kicked out into the streets and you’ll be forced to change your last name and get injections of other people’s blood in your body, which is too extra. Everyone is overly strict in this family, which the Official Royal Boarding School of Hendriksen, Alincêê, approves of, since that school is only allowed to let in children whose families are worth at least $500,000. When my mom dropped me off, I slouched my book bag over my shoulder without even saying goodbye. As I walked away with my mother screaming at me in the distance, I noticed a group of new girls who looked...different than the others, so I decided to walk up to them, when I was shoved by somebody. I looked up off of the ground and noticed that my glasses had flew into the windowsill nearby. Then, I recognized the girl group. It was the high schoolers from the school in Atreyu, up West, which is where all of the families worth more that $5,000,000 live. It was the five girls from the Lynsacry family, the richest family in the whole entire Olinan region. Their dads and their dad’s dads funded the three Lynsacry schools: The Lynsacry Proper School of Katana Training, The Lynsacry School For Witches, and The Lynsacry School of The Four Elements. Their grandmothers are famous cooks and witches who founded The Official Lynsacry School For Baking, and their granddads were the original founders of the Olinan region. I snapped out of thought just in time to see the oldest of the five girls, Elisonna Lynsacry, cast a spell. She yelled out in ancient witch language, “ꀹꀬꀷ𐰏𐰋ლდ𐌈꧁꧂ꦹ꧅꧍!

(Hannadera-dera yaun euschglict yaun eplifiblioah!),” Which means, “By the power of the Eight Gods, I command this realm shatter on this person!” and then the witch is supposed to point the wand at the person they want to effect, and their wand is supposed to glow lavender, and that will summon a realm shatter, which basically sucks that person into the realm of the Eight Gods, and you will be trapped there for all eternity while the Eight Gods do whatever they want to you. Yes, I am a witch. And yes, I did study on a lot of these things. I declare it. I’m a nerd. The phrase, “꧁꧂” also means “blessing power” or

“reminding” so, I really am a nerd.

꧁꧂

I used the Enatria shield (the most indestructible shield in the five realms) by casting the spell that went, “ꦍꦋꦲꦙ! (Ilun ebinya yun-yun ebinya-binya)” Which means, “Summon the

protective shield that can never be broken!” And not surprisingly, it blocked her Realm Shatter. She looked at me and then giggled. “Oh, it’s just Enya Lance! Sorry, I get easily scared. Nice block though!”

“Yeah, no problem,” I said, adjusting my glasses.

“We’re going for coffee during class in Kikionoa Town. Wanna come with us?”

“No thanks, I’m actually busy wi--”

“Great! Meet us in the corner booth at 10am!”

“Umm...okay…,” I said, confused why she ignored me. What did she really want me for? A girl whose family is worth $5,000,000 wouldn’t want a pathetic excuse for a witch like me to go out with them for coffee out of the blue like that. I decided to move on from it and waltz on in to Homeroom.

When the time came, I got up and excused myself to the bathroom. The teacher let me, and I started on my way to the cafe. I wondered on what Elisonna actually wanted for me, because she wouldn’t just pass me an invite to the cafe in one of the most peaceful and greenest towns in Olina. When I got to the cafe the waitress asked how I could help her and I told her I was meeting with five friends in the corner booth in the back. She excused me and I strutted on to the corner booth, where there was a practical buffet on a serving tray in front of the booth. When I decided to stop being such a foodie in public, I looked up from the buffet to see the five girls waiting for me. “I thought you guys said you were just going out for coffee.”

“Well, we were, but we figured, since you arrived at the school with perfect timing, I figured, ‘Why shouldn’t I?’ So I did just that, and keep in mind, this is for the thanks and all the gratitude I--we--have developed for you over the past year or so.”

“Why would you have gratitude for me? I’m just a regular girl in the Lance family, don’t really have a purpose right this moment.”

“Oh, silly Enya, thanks to you, we have found a different place to live instead of that disgusting industrial town of Daidaiyama. We live on the Lance family’s island, Tehicon! And it’s all thanks to you.”

“Well, I was the founder of it...and I did create its lush green environment and its beautiful beaches.”

One of the girls piped up. It was Hanai Lynsacry. “I love tanning on the beaches. Such a nice view, especially from the penthouse!”

Another one. This time, it was Saya. “The beaches are fine, but I like looking at the flowers behind the main mansion!”

Ellinis. “Personally, I like the royal designs in each house, yet the houses are so cheap! Only $100,000!”

And finally, Kyoko. “I just like living somewhere else than Daidaiyama, that disgusting place overflowing with air pollution.”

Then, Elisonna spoke again. “We want to thank you by inviting you to the Lynsacry family. You can always leave your mean mother and come with us! Besides, everyone will give you more attention, and our two grandmothers are very good cooks and witches! Enya Lance, will you proudly join the Lynsacry family by blood and become Enya Lynsacry?”

I had to think about th--you know what? Screw it! My mother treats me like she can just throw me around, and my dad left my mother since she was so abusive, and my life is pretty terrible right now, and I always wear the same clothes over and over again and I’m sick of it! I’m joining the Lynsacry family, and I don’t even care what mom says about it! She’ll probably be happy anyway. “Yes!”

“Great! Now, let’s skip school and go shopping.”

“But what about all this food?”

“I’ll use a teleportation spell.”

“Okay.” After that, we went to the mall and I got new clothes, new shoes, perfume (finally!), and some makeup and accessories. I’m already happy with my new life in the Lynsacry family.
