Greetings!
Today, I will be answering the question, Is it possible to reach space in Vanilla Minecraft?
To start off with, we must ask the question, where is space? Space, in the real world, is considered to begin at 100km from sea level this translates to 100,000 meters. How large is one block in Minecraft you may ask? Well, one block is exactly 1 cubic meter or 3 feet cubed. This means that it would take 100,000 blocks to reach space. That is A LOT of blocks!
To actually gather this many blocks, is quite nearly impossible, but I will go ahead and do the maths anyways. One diamond pickaxe has 1562 uses. This means it would take about 64 diamond pickaxes(192 Diamonds) to mine enough blocks to reach Minecraft Space. However, if you used iron pickaxes, it would take roughly 398 iron picks (1194 Iron Ingots)
It takes roughly 0.7 seconds to mine a stone block with a diamond pickaxe. This means it would take about 70,000 seconds -> 1166 minutes -> 19 hours to mine all of the blocks needed to reach space. 19 hours is a REALLY long time. It would take even longer if we had factored in the time it would take to craft all of the diamond picks needed, exploring caves, and storing the blocks in chests. So as a rough estimate, it would take 27+ hours to reach Vanilla Minecraft 'Space' (This takes into consideration the time to place all 100,000 of the blocks)
Back to the original question, Is it possible to reach space in Vanilla Minecraft? Well, technically speaking, yes, it is possible. But, is it plausible? No. Taking roughly 27 hours to mine all of those blocks, place all of those blocks, and create all of those pickaxes is pretty much insane.
