Hi today im going to show and explain to you how to set up a Bukkit server. Just follow the steps below and you can have a Bukkit server set up for you and your friends or even other mine crafters to play on it's fairly easy so to get started you will need download CraftBukkit.

Windows

1) Download CraftBukkit to your computer
2) Put the .jar in a folder on your desktop lets say the folders name is MCServer
3) Open a text editing program like text edit or notepad and type the following "java -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar -o truePAUSE" (no quotation marks)
4) Save this file in your MCServer file as run.bat not as a .txt
5) Once this is complete open run.bat (this should generate all the necessary files)
6) Enter "Stop" into the server console that appears this will close the server
7) Now you have a server setup on your local host (people on your network can connect) you can configure this with plugins you can find here
8) If you want people to be able to connect from different locations you need to port forward your server to do this I recommend you go to this page
9) After it is port forwarded go to this page look in the upper right hand corner there should be an ip address this is your external ip address give this to anyone to connect with
10) Now your server is set up people can connect easily by entering your external ip into your minecraft client

Mac

1) Setting up a server on a Mac computer is about as easy as on Windows I myself am a Mac user so I have found an easier way to do it on Mac

2) Simply go to this page download the auto-installer and run it. It will run you through an automatic setup and after that your server is fully setup now all you need to do is port forward to do this go to the same port forward guide for Windows this is listed above

What do you use Mac or Windows?
Mac
just erase the entire server file and use the auto-installer again

Windows
you might have to go through the steps again

Before doing either of these things make sure that the server isn't still running the reason it said something is still running on this port is most likely because you server is still running therefore you cannot start two at once.
