Now, this topic has disturbed me for quite some time now, and seriously needs to be discussed. I am not going to be mentioning any servers that do this, as that would be severely rude of me. But if you do this on your server, please - don't. It will just completely ruin your server.
If you having some trouble figuring out what message I am trying to get across, then I recommend you read on.
Okay, so recently on servers, I have looked at the store, just to see the perks, and prices of different donor ranks. Every now and then, I happen to stumble across a server, that allows you to become a STAFF MEMBER by donating. Just, no. Are you kidding me?
You know what is even worse? Mainly it is like 100 dollars.
You are probably thinking to your self - "100 dollars to become staff, seems fair to me."
Staff members are given OP. So that means that this donator can do what ever in the world he pleases. Whether it be "stopping the server, blowing up spawn, taking stuff from others chests even if its private." The list would go on for days, and they get the access to do ALL THAT by paying money?
The reason people make staff a donor rank, is so that people will want to buy it. Mainly putting it up for a lot of money, people will be intrigued to buy which, which means that the owner, is blowing up in cash.
But is that in all a good decision?
Well, now that they have given you 100 bucks and have the capability of doing anything they please, your server is screwed. They aren't gonna pay you that much many to be supportive (well, some may), people pay that much money to muck around on a popular server.
On those servers, I have never came across a good staff. All of them just mucking around, swearing and not helping whatsoever.
It is very kind of those people to pay you that much money, but don't give them OP for it! Perhaps give them many perks, and basically all commands, just not the ones that will ruin the server. So think twice before setting up donations for staff.
On my server, staff is earned. Whether it is my best friend or not. Some of my closest friends don't even have a rank yet. I believe that staff should be earned, not demanded, or payed for.
These are the signs that a person deserves a staff rank:
-Kind and Respectful: They don't act like total morons, and actually are really nice, and are respectful to the server.
-Activity: They will be on A LOT. Most of there time. This means that they really enjoy the server.
-Positive Comments: They will never hate on the server, and mainly discuss the good things about it, and at times will give constructive criticism.
-Help Others: They will help and guide new joined players, or anyone in general. This means they want to be supportive.
-Welcome Others: Every time someone joins, they will give them a warm welcome, or a warm welcome back if they had previously joined the server.
So if someone hold many of these traits, I recommend you examine them for a bit, then consider whether or not they make a good staff member.
In conclusion, I believe that paying for staff is just the wrong thing to do, and isn't the way to go. Staff should be earned, and should be legitimate staff members. If people can donate for servers, they can do whatever they please, so find proper staff members. Not just the ones who donated.

Also, although I am a very big fan of deadlox, I personally don't like his server. I don't even know if he takes donations, I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THIS IS EVEN IN THE TOPIC!

I've got to say, you are quite a person!
Again, for about the 3rd time, I really enjoy your stuff! You're probably now one of my favorite planet minecrafters!
