Okay. I always like to try new servers every once an a while, but I always get frustrated on how almost all servers are the same thing. These servers are usually...
This just infuriates me because I, for one, and many others in the Minecraft community play the game how it's meant to be played: With friends, building and surviving. No pvp factions or any of that. I always go on these servers and people just kill me right away and I have to play alone. Now before everyone starts ranting in the comments about how that's not how Minecraft is supposed to be played, do you think there would be so many projects, builders, and stuff if the idea of the game would be to kill people with swords? I don't think so.
Also, there are TONS of misconceptions that server put in the title, but here are just a few:
Survival
What it means
This means just playing Minecraft with friends like you would with single player mode.
What server owners think it means
ZOMG KILL EVERYONE!!!1
Creative
What it means
You start out in Creative mode in your own world or plots, and the idea is to build structures for fun, contests, or collaborations with other people.
What server owners think it means
IF U DONATE $25 U GET CREATIVE MODE A RANK UP AND 1,000 DIAMONDS!!!!11
One last thing to consider, it isn't fair that owners give players awards just for voting. That means that servers with voting benefits while other small servers don't get any recognition. This in my opinion doesn't seem fair.

Very active staff, good friends on almost all the time...and it's moving to 1.9 soon.
Factions, PVP, PVE, Skyblock, Minigames, Creative, Survival, MCMMO, etc.
When an owner can not check any of these he/she gets a feeling that they should add them so they can.
The problem, is how the server is executed. Owners get this need to add plugins people like, but they don't set it up correctly. On a PVP server they should have pvp free zones, perhaps the ability to turn off pvp in your own claimed land, and maybe new players should spawn with invicibility for 15 minutes. On a factions server the owner should make sure that players can not claim a bunch of land and then leave the server - the claimed land becoming useless. If a server owner is going to set up a server they need to decide what they want it to be when it's finished and work towards that. Many owners just throw on plugins without caring how it works and that leads to a poor server. There are servers out there with the things you listed that are good servers- this is because they took the time to craft it into something nice- something that seems well planned and structured. Not a bunch of random plugins.
Votifier isn't bad. It may be unfortunate that servers without it don't get as many votes, but it is a server owners decision whether to use it or not. Generally, using it provides more votes allowing the server to be more popular, which is a server owners goal. Being that it is a server owners choice- it's not unfair. That is like offering two kids icecream, one says no they don't want it, and then the other kid doesn't get any either because "it's unfair that one kid doesn't get any".
Also, that reward is way OP for 25$.
