So, let me start off by welcoming you to my first blog/rant. This will be covering the topic of massive pixel art. I'm sure that if you go to the 'latest' section of the projects, you would find some examples.
So yeah, these giant pixel art structures or walls may look awesome and majestic and what-not at first glance, but do you really think these people, most level 1-10 newbies, would take that much time on a giant pixel art project? Well, i'd put my money on NO.
You see, there is a program called 'SpriteCraft', which these people use to automatically generate these pixel art structures out of pictures you just simply click to upload into SpriteCraft. SpriteCraft detects which blocks it is going to use, and generates the picture to the dimensions you set. A full tutorial can be found here.
So, in conclusion, no. These pixel art 'creations' are not impressive at all! They are just simply laziness at it's finest and people wanting a free ride to levelling up. Please, if you see one of these pixel art things, do NOT diamond it. Don't give the poster the pleasure in gaining levels/xp just from simply doing nothing. People should work for their levels on PlanetMinecraft.

I'd love to see more legitimately made pixel art on PMC every once in awhile.
You guys and a few other classic servers might be alone though. I know a few servers had some amazing ones, included the server I own, Aeries. It's just hard to account for which ones are generated, and which ones are the people who actually took the time to trial and error through this stuff. Probs the safest bet for pixel artists these days would be to show some sort of timeline along with their work, and a closer up image so we can see how they dither/gradient; y'know, most the time you can tell.
EDIT: I checked some of your pixel art. They are not as massive as these. They go into so much detail with the picture, it's pretty obvious a person did not create it.
