Today's Big Question: Is Minecraft Dying?

Dying?

Now, I know with upcoming releases (1.8 I cant' wait for you) people think Minecraft is far from dead, but lets take a look to see if that statement has any truth to it. Minecraft has been around for a LONG time, looking back it's original release date was May 17.... 2009. That was almost 5 years ago. It doesn't seem like it's been that long, but it has well at least for some of us. Those of us who aren't hardcore and haven't been there since the beginning we probably joined around the time of it's full release, November 18, 2011. Now even if you knock of the two years, three years is still a long time. Now I know what you are thinking, three or even 5 years is nothing I've been playing (insert game here) for 10 years and it hasn't gotten old. Well as that might be true it doesn't mean that game is relevant anymore.

Minecraft-mania?

For example, lets take a cult classic Pokemon. Pokemon debut in 1998 in North America regions and became a huge success, it was everywhere from clothing, to toys, even as far as having it's own cereal. It was a cultural phenomenon, every man, woman, and child took part in the craze known as Pokemania. However, it was not suited to last. Like so many things Pokemania was naught but a fad, popular one week and gone the next. Now if you haven't already lets draw some connections to Minecraft. Minecraft offically released in 2011 has garnished over 35 million total sales. That's not including the wide range of merchandise that has been sold. Minecraft is everywhere, from every nook and cranny of the internet to the hands of countless children worldwide. It has become a huge hit, but I'm sad to say it is going to face the same fate as Pokemon.

How?

With console sales blooming, and new sales records being reached it might not look as so. However, many of these new players will spend their piece with Minecraft and leave. In the beginning every ounce of play, and every new update meant a lot to the players. They thought their ideas were being heard, and it made them stick around, feeling that they can take some credit for the game's greatness from their contributions as players. But this is slowly coming to an end. With an ever growing amount of console players and overall abundantcy of updates, the group of people who once thought their opinions mattered is dwindling and they aren't being replaced. The core gamers that once played are leaving and those more casual gamers are replacing them. These casual gamers (nothing wrong with them of course) stick around and continue to play the game for a much shorter amount of time. Basically what I'm trying to say is the older more loyal gamers are leaving and younger gamer less loyal gamers are replacing them. This is causing drops in both quantity and quality of user-generated content for the game. Also once well respected sites like Minecraft forum and this site itself are being filled with lower grade content. Now you may not share my sentiments but the proof is in the pudding, Minecraft is dying even if it is doing so slowly. So lets look back at Pokemon for an example. Pokemania lasted three years, guess how many years it's been since Minecraft's official release?

If you've made it this far the I thank you for reading my blog, it took a while to make (ok well not that long) and I thank you for reading to it's conclusion. (unless you just skipped to the end, then shame one you) If you liked my blog and would like to see more please diamond (like), favorite, and/or subscribe. This was made 5 years ago, in a time where other games were passing Minecraft. Even the recent game Fortnite made it seem like Minecraft was dead. However, I was wrong in my initial assumption, Minecraft keeps flaring back to life at any given moment. This website, however, has definitely seen its heyday come and pass. There used to be 15 people in the chat at all times and more booming forums. Now you are lucky to get 5 people in chat.

I totally agree with the statements, but the players who joed even frm just say 1.2 or 1.1 are loyal enogh to keep the game alive for 2 or  more years, after that aproximatley 8 or 9 years of minecraft's operation it wil be spiraling downhll unless people sp playing and people feel their ideas are being heard again, in retrospect, all your ideas just go through over and over again in a never-ending cycle.

Well, other than Minecraft Pokémon still is relevant. Better make your research next time :I It's true Minecraft isn't that relevant anymore, but not just because it's "old" but less players. Servers closing their gates because they don't come up with new ideas. Just copying each other, stealing gamemodes from Gmod and such, $50+ premium membership per month or just stay the same till the last player is gone. I'm actually pretty surprised there are still some "big" servers. Not as big as they were, but still big enough to stay. Let's see for how long...

Ok I know Pokemon is still revlaent but that is after a rebirth of the franchise. There was a huge drought that came along with the 3rd generation games, as well as Pokemon's exclusion from pop culture. Yes Pokemon is still a thing, but it's not anywhere near (even now) to the thing it was in the early 2000's

I remember about a year ago, minecraft was the most popular thing at my school. Eveybody was talking about thier server, defeating the enderdragon, and just general minecraft stuff. Now, whenever I talk to someboyd about minecraft they're like, "You still play that game?" Its too bad that minecraft is going down. There isnt really a way out of this hole, and minecraft might be just doomed to extiction. D:
