I know everybody has their own version of this, but no one did it justice so...
This is by far my favorite way to survive your very first night. Single-player seems to be a fading component to Minecraft, not as popular as it used to be, but I love re-living those first days not knowing what the heck I'm doing wandering around caves and punching countless trees.
It's all my opinion, but my friends agree with me. It's an almost fool-proof way to survive that night. Call me Captain Happy.
Baby Steps -
So once you've generated your seed and all that good stuff, check your surroundings. Where are you? What biome? Every biome contains different challenges, things to find, and natural dangers to confront. If you spawn in a forest, it'd be hella easy to find trees to punch. If you spawn in a desert, not very much so.
You need to find trees. Trees are ESSENTIAL to moving forward and actually getting somewhere with your world. Find some trees, punch those trees, get wood.
Once you find trees, craft stuff in this order:
- Crafting table
- Pickaxe
Go out and mine. Get as much cobble as possible, then return to your crafting and craft:
- Stone pickaxe
- Stone sword
- Furnace
Gather more wood if you want, then go slay the animals roaming around for food. Find some coal, and cook the food if you want but save some of the coal for torches.
Accommadations -
Now, you need a bed. If you wanna survive your first night, get a bed. Minecraft isn't as hard as it used to be, back then if you didn't have a bed you had to wait the night out in some dirt closet in pitch darkness.
Find sheep ASAP. If you spawn in a desert, find a pyramind and get the wool found inside. You just need three of any color.
Since this is a tutorial about surviving your first night, you don't need a house. At all. Once sunset first hits, climb a tree. Break two leaves, and replace them with wood planks. Place your bed, and spend the night in a tree. The next few nights will be easier.
Conclusions -
Surviving your first night is easy if you know what you are doing. Monsters can't hurt you if you know where you are, and adventure awaits your every corner. Get away from the craziness of Minecraft multiplayer, and get out there.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment or PM me. I'd be happy to answer them.
Wonderful house tutorials can be found all over the web, and if you need help figuring out a crafting recipe, go check out the Minecraft Wiki.
