Guide to EV Training in Pixelmon!

Hello, my name's Ben and I'm an expert Pokemon player. A lot of Pixelmon fans out there have always wondered what EV Training is. So today, I'm going to teach you what EV Training is and how to know what stat to EV train your pokemon in!

What is EV Training?
EV (Effort Value) Training is training a certain Pokemons stat. For example speed, attack, defence, etc.
Now, here's an example of a level 1 Pikachus stats:

HP: 11
Attack: 5
Defence: 6
SP.Attack: 6
SP.Defence: 5
Speed: 6

Notice how I put SP.Attack and SP.Defence. The 'SP' stands for Special. A Special Attack move is something that is fired from range. For example, flamethrower is a SP.Attack move because the Pokemon shoots fire at the enemy. Now Attack is a physical move. A move where the Pokemon uses his actual body to cause damage to the enemy. For example, Fire punch would be a Attack move because he uses his fist to damage the enemy.

Now, these stats are rather lame. But, it's a level 1 Pikachu so it's not that bad. As a Pokemon levels up all of his stats will increase. When EV Training you can focus on 1 stat to increase.

So, let's say, I wanted to EV Train my Pikachu in Speed. A Pikachu should be fast, right?
But now you may ask 'How do I EV Train?'

The answer is: Everytime you kill a wild Pokemon you gain 1 EV Point of a stat. You're most probably now thinking
'How do I get a pokemon to give me EV points in Speed?'

The answer is: Every Pokemon gives out different stats. To know what stats they give out, I use this site:
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_effort_value_yield

It tells you what EV point they give to your pokemon and how many.
For every 4 EV Points, it will increase that stat by 1! For example, go on the site and at the top you will see Bulbasaur.
Every time you kill him in battle your Pokemon will recieve 1 EV Point in SP.Attack. So, for your Pokemons SP.Attack
stat to go up by 1, you must kill 4 Bulbasaurs!

Now, don't get cocky and think you can EV Train forever, because you can't. The maximum ammount of stat points you can have is 510. What I like to do, is have 2 stats at 255 (Or something close to that).

What are natures?

Natures are a big big help to EV Training. Each nature will + a stat and - a stat. Now, if you're getting confused. Don't worry. I will make this easier for you.

Example of some natures:
Brave (+Attack, -Speed)
Jolly(+Speed, -SP.Attack)

Now, if we had 2 Pikachus. Both non EV trained. Both the same level. But one Pikachu had the Brave nature and the other had the Jolly nature. Then the first Pikachu with the Brave nature would be slower then the second Pikachu because the Brave nature is -Speed. But the second Pikachu has the Jolly nature which is +Speed which makes him faster. But the first Pikachu has a stronger Attack stat because of his +Attack.

Natures arent something you can change on a Pokemon, they are random. If you catch a Pokemon with a bad nature, feel free to catch another one and try and get a better nature!

Items:

When EV Training you can use items to make the proccess faster! Here are the items and what they do:

Meet the Power family:

Power Weight - This will give your pokemon 4 EV Points in HP everytime you kill ANY Pokemon!

Power Bracer - This will give your pokemon 4 EV Points in Attack everytime you kill ANY Pokemon!

Power Belt - This will give your pokemon 4 EV Points in Defense everytime you kill ANY Pokemon!

Power Lens - This will give your pokemon 4 EV Points in SP.Attack everytime you kill ANY Pokemon!

Power Band - This will give your pokemon 4 EV Points in SP.Defense everytime you kill ANY Pokemon!

Power Anklet - This will give your pokemon 4 EV Points in Speed everytime you kill ANY Pokemon!

How do I know what to EV Train my Pokemon in?
Most of the time, I always EV Train in speed and something else. Speed is very useful! If you have Attack Moves, EV Train in Attack. If you have SP.Attack moves, EV train in SP.Attack! If your Pokemon already has an amazing defense or SP.Defense then EV train it in that! Just make sure that you plan it out well. Don't EV train in Sp.Attack and have attack moves. It's a waste. Speed is amazing to EV Train in, it truly is. But if you're going for a tank pokemon, then don't EV Train in Speed.

Thanks for reading this guide, I hope it helped you!
