Water which according to Wikipedia is a transparent fluid which forms the world's streams, lakes, oceans and rain, and is the major constituent of the fluids of living things. Water covers 71% of the Earth and is the most needed thing in our body. We all know this, right? Of course, I'm not here to talk about the importance of water because it's not something we don't know. I'm also not here to talk about hydrophobia or stuff like that. I'm here to talk about what I just watched on the television about people with deficiencies and deformities. One of them was a girl who had a very rare allergy. It was aquagenic urticaria or simply known as allergy to water. I was like stunned to know this kind of disease would exist in the world. I was skeptical about it. So, I decided to search about the allergy. Turned out, it was very much real! Well, anything is quite likely possible nowadays.
To think that our bodies are made of 60% of water, and yet this could happen. It seems implausible — if not impossible — to be allergic to water, but about 40 people worldwide have been diagnosed with the condition. It causes the skin to break out in painful hives and welts when it comes into contact with water and in severe cases, a person's throat can swell if they drink water. Even the most basic of things they cannot do without enduring the severe pain for hours brought about by the allergy. They can't even exercise because of the sweat. Sweat is also a form of water. The rain, tears and any form of water, in huge amounts, could kill them. The cause is still unknown, based on what I've researched.
I don't have this allergy. No, I don't. I'm just sharing what I thought would be impossible but later found out to be true. If I did have this allergy, I'd have no regrets. My thoughts about this is that it's so ironic. Think about it. To us, this is the most needed thing in our body. To them, it also is the most needed thing in their body, but it could kill them. See my point? The most important thing needed in the body could actually have some bad tricks of its own.
I don't know if any of the members of the PMC Community have this kind of rare allergy. Let me say it again, I don't have this allergy. But I would not look down on the people that have this. They've been through life more than me.
As far as I understand, it's not easy being in the shoes of these people.
