Hey guys,
Ever since I was at 40-ish subscribers, I wanted to make a blog series about interviewing the incredibly intelligent people of the PMC PC Group, who roam the forums in search of helping people out with their PC builds. However, I couldn't find a good time to start the blog series. So I just figured, "Why not at 50 subscribers?" So yeah... this is my 50 subscriber special.

A lot of people don't know these people, which is why I wanted to make this blog series. This is primarily to introduce people to these intelligent people, who will help anyone with a question about their computer.

Anyway, you're not here for the backstory of this blog. You're here for the interview with Killertoad.
So, you may be asking yourself, "Who is Killertoad?", "Why should we care about him?", or "Why did you start the blog series with him?"
First of all, Killertoad is considered to be one of the greatest computer experts on the site. We should care about him, because he is very well known around the forums, and knows his way around a computer. And I'm starting this blog series with him because he is the one who personally helped me create my build list, which I am saving up for, so I just figured that he would be the one I start with.

Here's how the interveiw went:

[Killertoad]

What is the PMC PC Group?
It's a group of people who have experience with computers, and how they work, to help others understand how computers work, while giving suggestions to computers that'll best fit their wants/needs.

Who formed the PMC PC Group?
It was an idea started by me Randomness3333, and Crazyeagle to make a forum post informing people about the PROs/CONs of building a PC. Then the idea expanded, with more of our close friends and created a group, so people didn't just think we were talking out of our butts. So now we are here.

How long have you been working with, learning, or sharing wisdom about computer hardware?
Shew, years and years and years ago. Around 12 years ago is when I got into computers, learning how they work, asking why it does this, and that, and then sharing my knowledge with others.

How did you get the name "Killertoad"?
Well, when I was a child, I'd always be hyper, bouncing around, and just all over the place, so my parents gave me the nickname "Toad" or "Toadfrog". Well, when I first started playing competive games (The first SOCOM games, NASCAR games, etc on the PS2, and a few games on the PC, like Killing Floor, and ArmA 2) I used the nickname "ToadCLP" (CLP was my initials). I then got more into games, and started playing with my friends, I got tired of everyone calling me "Toad CLIP", so I came up with a more catchy name, "Killertoad". I feel inlove with it, and have used it on everything since. It's done me good so far! Haha.

How did you find Planet Minecraft?
Hm, let's see, I think I came here because of one of my close friends server, he wanted me to list it, which I never did. So I decided to join the forum.

If you were to guess, how many PC build lists have you put together?
I couldn't possibly count them. Probably in the hundreds

What is your favorite thing about computers?
Probably the GPU. I love looking at them, I just build a computer not to long ago with a 280x that had a custom backplate, and oh man it was pretty.

What do you primarily do when using your computer?
I use it for a good amount of stuff. Gaming, photo editing when I want to, video editing for projects, etc. Pretty much a little bit of everything. I'm working on a test bench right now, to go in the back of my room for tests done by me.

Do you have any personal tips for those building a computer?
- Be careful with AMD CPUs, as the pins on the bottom will bend easily.

- Try not to build on carpet, but if you have to, touch your case every once in awhile to ground yourself, so you don't short out the motherboard.
- Don't skimp out on your PSU, it could be the death of your machine.
- Try to get a case with good cable management features, makes your job a whole lot easier.
- Be forceful with the RAM. It takes a little pressure to snap it in.
- When you put the I/O shield on your computer, try to make sure it's the first thing you do. I've done it countless times, I'd put the motherboard in first, then the I/O shield won't fit, so I'd have to undo the motherboard, snap the I/O in, then put the motherboard back in. It's a pain in the butt, especially when you have put your GPU in already.

If it's possible, how much do you think is "too much" to spend on a computer?
Well, depends on use. If you're just using it for internet, then anything over 250-400 is too much. For gaming, at med settings, then 600-700 is more than enough. But once you get into the high end build, there isn't a such thing as "too much".

If you could have any computer in the world, what would it be?
- i7-5960X

- GTX 980 (x3)
- 16/32GB's of DDR4 (3333MHz)
- Nothing but SSD space (2-5TB's)
- NZXT h440 Red
- Custom PSU cables, to match the red ASUS motherboard/ram/case.

What are your current PC specs?
About to upgrade to a FX-6300.
I have a 7850, with 4GB's of ram. (About to go with 8), and 4 HDD's with 250-500GB's on each one.

I assume you've heard about Microsoft skipping Windows 9, and going straight to 10. Are you looking forward to this update, and are you going to update?
I've been using Windows 10 on a VM, and I have to say I like 8.1 better right now. I don't like the borderless windows on 10. And the start menu is ugly, and becoming more and more outdated.

If you were to guess, how much have you spent on computers/peripherals in your lifetime?
Hm, hard to exactly say. All the way back? Then probably looking in the thousands of dollars over my lifetime so far.

Other than yourself, obviously, who is your favorite member of the PMC PC Group?
Hard to say, I'd say we are all pretty close, and don't have a certain favorite. But i've gone back furthest with Randomness3333 than any of the others.

Do you overclock, and do you recommend doing so?
I have before, but I don't really anymore, other than my videocards. For me I'd don't get much of an improvement, so not really worth my time. Other's may benefit more than I do, so I say why not. But you're gonna want to research a little bit on the hardware and cooler you have before you do anything that may bite you in the butt.

How young do you think is "too young" to put together a PC?
Don't have a certain age, other than a child that can't walk/talk/read. I know a few people that have had their kids helping them with their personal computers, building/cleaning/repairing. I was fortunate enough to be one of those growing up, my dad has taught me a lot of the little tricks and stuff that I know today.

Do you have any other advice for people considering to build a computer?
Don't be scared to ask questions, and get advice from online. It seems like a difficult task at first, but it's really not that hard. Once you get done, you'll feel amazing though, knowing that you just saved a ton of money, plus you have a computer that you know exactly what's in
it.

Basically, this was the whole interview. In my opinion, it went pretty well. I was actually surprised that he answered them. I always thought of him as a big, scary guy who was like very personal. The hardest part of this interview was actually sending the questions, because I was scared that he was going to say no, and I would've looked pretty stupid.

Regardless of views of this blog, I plan on trying to interview more members of the PMC PC Group, and if they're willing, perhaps all of them. I might even try to contact a member from the grave, if this blog series goes well.
