i just thought of making this nice little handy guide to commonly used abbreviations and terms on this site

so here they are:
[wip] = Work in Progress
[PreAlpha] = A development status given to a program or application that is usually not feature complete,and is not usually released to the public. Developers are usually still deciding on what featuresthe program should have at this status. This status comes before the alpha version, and is thefirst status given to a program.
[smp] = survival multiplayer
[ssp] = survival single player
[lan] = local area network
[alpha] = A development status that usually means an early version of a program or application, that is most likely unstable, but is useful to show what the product will do to, usually, a selected group. Sometimes this stage is referred to as a preview version. Sometimes no more features are added after this release, but bug fixes continue. This release comes after a pre-alpha version and before a beta version. As opposed to a beta version an alpha version is usually not feature complete.
[beta] = A development status given to a program or application that contains most of the major features, but is not yet complete. Sometimes these versions are released only to a select group of people, or to the general public. The testers are usually expected to report any bugs they encounter or any changes they'd like to see before the final release. This is the second major stage of development following the alpha version, and comes before the release candidate.
[release candidate]= i don't often see this one on this site but i'll explain it anyway:A version of a program that is nearly ready for release but may still have a few bugs; the status between beta version and release version.
[release] = A development status used when the program or application is ready to be released into the public, maybe with some last minute changes. This status comes after release candidate, and is the last status given to the program.
[build] = any of various versions of a software product as it is being developed for release to users
[forge] or [fml] = uses forgemod loaderto run
[#x]resolution of a skin or texture pack
