Jeanne Antoinette Poisson was the premier mistress of King Louix XV from 1745-1751, though remaining one of his closest friends after she became unable to service him romantically. She held significant importance as one of the prime ladies of french culture in the 1700s, and was celebrated as a patron of 'rococo' arts, architecture and fashion. One of her main interests was decorative arts, mostly engravings and porcelain. She also held a political mind, and encouraged intellectual pursuits such as enlightenment philosophy via her grand book collection.
