pickaxes are usually good when mining, on a more serious note there isn't really any good way to find diamonds

you could try these steps, ive had similar issues with mods doing stupid things and a redownload generally fixes the issue.
1. stop server
2. remove all mods from server
3. download mods from official source
4. upload mods to server
5. start server

then do the same for client
