The idea that different people might look honestly at the same set of data and arrive at different conclusions [​outside of a few hard sciences] seems to have died with the concept that an education was supposed to teach one how to think, not what to think.

Very relatable. I came on here to say something similar, actually. What I do depends on the project, I go with option 1 for large projects that will take several months, and option 2 for smaller projects I can finish in about a week.

usually when i try learning a song on the piano i always tell myself, "I'll keep it a secret from my friends and impress them when im done", but i always end up just showing them the half learned song as soon as i see them ._.

I'm not one to talk, as I've never successfully made a skin before, but I think a good way to go about it is to just try and figure out how to have fun with it. For me, when it comes to working on literally anything, I just do whatever might sound fun to actually do with the project. This often means writing flat nonsense and drawing disproportionate and silly guys with big bald heads.
Find out how to have fun in it, and maybe you'll wind up making good stuff out of it. And if it ain't good, well at least you did something fun or silly instead of stressing over getting it right.
