Why do people dislike Adfocus?
I use Adfocus all the time for my packs. All it makes you do is watch a 3-10 second ad then it takes you to the download which gives the pack creator a few cents per or every few clicks. I don't know any reason for people to dislike the site other than the fact that it does look a little old/sketchy and some people might confuse with ad.fly which I believe give you viruses at some point (And may still do so). I just genuinely want to know why people dislike the site as I see plenty of comments complaining that it uses Adfocus on every pack that does. It can just be convenient for the pack creator as if their pack gets popular, they can make a bit of money from it while not having to pay any money/make anyone else pay.

I don't mind it because I just use an ad blocker ;)
Same
I don't trust the site. I mean it's better than adfly, but the ads are just annoying (though it's good, no adult content)
to be honest, I don't prefer ad focus, yet I don't see anything wrong with it... I find ad fly a little more annoying, yet no issues with ad focus. Mediafire seems to be the most trustworthy and direct, but i dunno much...
Adfocus and Mediafire are completely different, and used for completely different reasons XD
Mediafire simply hosts the file and lets people download it, with a bit of ads to pay their expenses.
Adfocus gives money to the people uploading the files based on how many downloads the file gets, and as such needs to make more money by its ads in order to pay its users.
Adfly is widely accepted as completely horrible.

True lol.
Yep #adflysucks
Yep #adflysucks
tbh i didnt even know you could get a little extra something from adfocus, i just thought people used it because their packs were really big and exceeded the pmc file size limit lol :>>
Nah, packs can exceed the file size so people just put their packs on MediaFire, CurseForge, or sometimes google drive. It does require a pretty big pack tho lol
Happens quite often with maps.
adfocus is actually ok, but i hate people who use adfly
No one likes Adfly lmao
yep you are just like me!

Not really, there are probably tons of sites that sell your info to sites that make money by advertising.

Of course, they're two completely separate services, with different ideals, ethics and policies.
then how do you expect me to get a fucking new pc and an account and still gets those ads?
REKT
REKT
They have your IP address they can track it that way. That definitely is NOT a REKT moment. The only way to reset your ip-focused ads is to use a VPN or ask your ISP very nicely to change it.
On top of that if your monitor uses a weird resolution or your mouse has a certain DPI settings it can be used to identify you. Global positioning aswell. You'd be surprised what can be used to track you. You have your own specific style of using your computer and have specific hardware that might not change between getting new computers.

the number of misconceptions people have in these comments is so stupid. If you were looking to say something bad about adfocus, please read this first:
- adfocus is moderated. nothing unsafe will come from the site
- if your antivirus blocks it, that's a problem with your antivirus and not adfocus
- "I don't want to wait 3 seconds" well how else do expect creators to monetise their hard work
- "use another site" there are no viable alternatives. adfocus is the most secure, reliable, well known site and it has no problems
If you are a creator that has had complaints about users not being able to get to the download, then add a direct download link somewhere else on the page. This way, most users will go through the ads with no problems, but the few that can't still have a way of downloading.

its NOT MODERATED
Or it might be insufficiently moderated. As far as I know, it at least has some moderation to delete accounts of people using it XP
I've heard a lot of sketchy things about it, and if 5 different antiviruses block it, they oughta have a reason for doing that. I'd rather not use it than risk it based on the word of a stranger on the internet who says its safe.
I've read about several cases of browser-hijacking adware that leads you to the site, so it's safe to say that at least at some point it distributed such adware and is not above doing so.

you realise "I've heard sketchy things" is just as valid as "the word of a stranger on the internet". just the fact that everyone uses it is a testament to its safety. even Vanilla Tweaks uses it! as Catpire said, sketchy sites sometimes use adfocus for monetisation, even though the site itself isn't sketchy. "I'd rather not risk it" you're not risking anything??
I know the two are just as valid, but I'd rather not visit something that may or may not infect my PC and network than simply not get that data pack I wanted.
your loss ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I guess so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As of now, the only opportunity I've missed has been to report a stolen data pack XD

Of course adware is going to link you to adfocus thats how they would make money- by showing ads. Thats why its called ADWARE. The thing is Adfocus is marked as adware because ACTUAL adware links to it and its made guilty by association. Would you consider Youtube a porn site if a porn site linked to it?
Fair point. Still, I'd rather not risk it.
ye
i think what youre talking about is adfly, that site is the worst, adfocus is ok
Nah, I'm talking about adfocus.
i hate you
You hate me for... having opinions and being cautious?
agreed
i love you
-its unsafe
-its annoying
-just use mediafire
-its annoying
-just use mediafire
- you have no basis to call it unsafe
- a minor inconvenience is fine if the creator is getting something back
- huh? mediafire is a different thing. It is a site where you can put files up for download. PMC users shouldn't really be using mediafire because it has no benefits and just inconveniences the user. Adfocus does not host downloads, but takes you through a site with ads to another site. It simply allows for monetisation.

What do you mean PMC users shouldn't be using mediafire? At least in cases where the file-size is higher than the PMC limit, I think mediafire is a decent option.
using mediafire isn't too bad but it's just pretty annoying when it's unnecessary. It's fair enough that people would use it for the file size tho.
Yeah, I don't get why people use it when the file size is tiny XP
