Why would anyone pick a 1080ti over a 2080ti other than the money factor? This is just a versus, and the 2080ti is better at every single thing versus the 1080ti. New 2080ti's aren't much more than a new 1080ti, if you look at the used market, be wary of how many 1080ti's were used for bitcoin mining.

Give it a few weeks and see what the 2080 Super/2080 Ti Super look like. Price drops are imminent!

Never buy the first generation of a new type of technology if you want your money's worth. It will always be less than ideal.
Wait a few generations. If they're gonna count in the hundreds again now, instead of in the thousands, then maybe around the 2380ti it'll truly be worthwhile. At the rate they're going now, that should be in 5-10 years.
Ofc if you dont care how much you spend on the slightest performance increase, feel free to throw your money at it.
